Perils of War

By: Tainted Happiness

The tears flew

Down from the eyes

Of the many he knew

They were the price

Of living the way we do

Many should have thanked him

For everything he gave

Yet still he lay, eyes looking dim

Of so many in this world he'd be the one to save

The shots rang out

Everything was bright

Mighty, grand, and loud they were

While the wife was sitting out of sight

In her hand, four bullets they placed

With tears in their eyes, saluted

She looked now, at what she faced

As they left, fully suited

This was not the beginning of a perilous fight

But the end to a military life.
