Chapter 4-

Ironic isn't it? One of my favorite people, is the roommate of one of my least favorite people. How the hell did I not know this?! This is-This is…I cant even think of a word to describe this! Hmph.

I tried to concentrate on my math homework but my mind kept wandering back to Jay. Lordie. I hate him.

There was a knock at the door, "What do you want?" I called.

No reply, just another knock.

"Fine. I'm coming. If that's you Keiley you are so dead. How many times do I have to tell you to remember your key? I mean seriousl-" I opened the door to find Jay ready to knock again.

"Hello!" He said cheerfully.

"God help me! What do you want?!?" I said, fully exasperated.

He tittered (tittered! I mean seriously what kinda moron would titter at a time like this! And for those who don't know what titter means, it means to giggle.) and held up a book. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. "I thought it would be good for the project."

I grabbed it and checked it over, realizing I had seen the movie of this. It was excellent and I've been meaning to read the book. "Fine. But isn't this a kinda girlyish book?"

"Well, I guess so…but it was pretty okay. And I figured it was something you might like."

"Alrightly then." I went to close the door but he held it open. "What now?"

"We should start to think of how to advertise it."

"I have to READ it first! I'll find you when I finish it. Okay? Good. Byee!" I waved and flashed a very big, very fake smile. I then slammed the door shut and sat down to read.

Once on a dark winter's day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father…

..."These are the plates," she said. "They are golden plates. These are the richly embroidered napkins. Nuns worked them in convents in Spain." "Did they, miss?" breathed Becky, her very soul uplifted by the information. "You must pretend it," said Sara. "If you pretend it enough, you will see them."

Suddenly a hand obstructed my view of the book, "Danni? Are you with us?"

"Huh?" I looked up to see Ryan and Keiley staring at me excitedly.

"Lookie!" Keiley flung a flier at me.

I read it over, not seeing what was so great about going to- WAIT! New York City?!?!?!?! MY NEW YORK CITY?!?!?!I hadn't been back home in three years! I smiled but it quickly fell when I saw the price.

"What? What's wrong? You've always talked about how you wanna go back…here's your chance!"

I swallowed hard and whispered, "I-I can't afford it."

"Danni…" Ryan started but I cut him off.

"I have like…$800 from the money I'm saving for a new laptop, and I can get the other $200 before we leave if I put in some extra hours at the book store…but that doesn't cover the money I need to DO stuff…there's no WAY I can get that much." I sniffed.

"Well, then it's a good thing you have friends as great as us." Keiles smiled.

I looked at them confusedly, then it hit me. "Oh no. No, no, NO! I can't let you do that!"

"Too late." Keiley stated simply.

"Wha-NO. Take it back! Please." Tears were forming now. "I don't want you to do this."

"Danni…? We thought you'd be happy…" She came over and draped an arm around my shoulders. I leaned my head on her arm.

"I am. I just-I wish-I promise I'll pay you back!" I smiled a little and looked up. I was going back to my city.

"OW!!" I yelled as a large weight fell on op of me.

"Wake UP!" oh. It was just Keiley sitting on me again.

I opened one eye grogglily. "Keiles. It's flippin' dark outside. Why the hell am I getting up?!"

"Cause it's December 20th!"

"New York City Day!! We're leaving!"

"Oh!" today was the day of the trip! I didn't know who else was going, nor did I care. All I care about is going home! HOME. It's such a beautiful word. I'd lived in an apartment on Broadway and 51st my whole life (well, at least until I came to this shithole they call at school). And it was great. My parents moved to Connecticut suburbia a year after they sent me to New York's School for the Bloody Rich. So my anticipation of going to the city was uncontrollable. Yay!

"Are ya ready. Danni, m'dear?"

"Shut up Keiley. You know I'm ready. That's why I'm waiting here with my bag in hand and the door wide open!"

She laughed as we left.

I lagged behind, trying to pull along my massive suitcase.

When I finally got my ass onto the bus, I saw that Ryan was in my seat next to Keiles.

"Hey. Move." I scowled at him.

He smiled uncertainly, "Er…Keiles? Help?"

She sighed. "Can I pwetty pwease sit with him?" She begged, hugging Ryan's arm to her chest. "Please?

I gasped. "How could you Keiley? I feel like you've ripped out my heart and stomped on it! Stomp. Stomp! STOMP!!!" Just slightly overdramatic, don'tcha think?

Ryan started to get up but Keiley pulled him back down. "Fine." I huffed to an empty seat. "I'll sit all alone!" I looked around. Ew. Mandy and Rachel were on the bus. I still have to have a chat with Mandy…I was the only person sitting alone. Every other seat was full.

Mr. Rochester got on. He was talking to someone, "Looks like there's only one seat left." He pushed Jay Carlton into the seat next to me.

"Oh no!" I groaned. This was gonna be a long trip.

"How 'bout now?" I smirked. I just love annoying jay. For the past hour I've been asking 'Are we there yet?' and 'How 'bout now?' you have no idea how much fun I'm having.

"NO! We are NOT there yet!! Okay? Do you see any pointy buildings and dirty streets? We AREN'T in New York City yet!"

I gasped deeply. "Manhattan isn't all dirty streets and strip clubs you know. It's the most marvelous place in the whole entire UNIVERSE!"

I heard him sigh, "Whatever you say Danni."

I took this opportunity to glance around the bus. Wow. Did the teachers not notice that almost everyone (except me and Jay of course) was making out? In the back of the bus, even two guys seemed awfully into each other. What kinda chaperones are these?

I looked at jay. He was staring at me with a funny expression on his face. It was freaking me out. It was the same expression Josh used to look at me with before he became a major jackass.

Grr…"Stop!" I yelled suddenly.

"Huh?" he seemed to snap out of a trance.

"Don't look at me like that."

"Oh. I'm sorry." Lordie he's polite.

"Whatever," I turned back to staring out the window.

"No." That is what I said when I received my room assignment. Yet here I was. Sharing a room with the devil's whore herself, Rachel Wood.

I'm really starting to think staying in Highland Falls would have been a much better plan.

Thanks for reading!!
