Hateful Retraction

Tender darling
Can you hear me?
Can you stop me, little starling
From getting lost in you tree

I'm being driven
Driven to no end
Driven to see thee given
To the sky, before I offend

Your rational beauty
And suspend our friendship
Leaving me to my woes and duties
Where I know I'll lose my grip

The tree will disappear
The memory of you will fade
To this I will adhere
Until finding new shade

Merciless tormenter
Aren't thou listening?
You can't stop me, little devil-bird
From cutting down that tree

I'm driving toward thee
Driving to your end
Driving to see
Your carcass from around the bend
