i can trace the naked pathways

to this conclusion with an oiled finger

gasp at my own translucent sighs

petty misdemeanors and passable infractions

you slid by, wax paper on aluminum

silent except for the scratch and crinkle of

your body slinking past, fists grinding into the asphalt and

gravel, bleeding cuts in your knees leaving trails of blood like

red war paint behind you gravity pulling the liquid,

scarlet against the tar, downhill along with you

lifting a thin graceful paint brush to this

scar upon the streets smearing ink over

the blood and anguish seeping from your core

how out of place

a smile

would look upon your face
