Chronicle One/Chapter One: Welcome To Your Doom
Torrie Thomas sat back in the beach chair outside her new home wearing her black bikini, and black shorts rolled up the highest they could go, wind whipping her dark brown hair with blue streaks across her face as she spoke on the phone with her friend Katie Meteora.
"Hey Torrie!" Katie exclaimed slightly nervous.
"Hey! What's wrong? You sound worried about something," Torrie replied as she brushed her blue streaked hair out of her face.
Katie laughed, "You always could read me like a book. I was wondering if a friend and I could move in with you."
"Move in with me?"
"Yeah. Uhm... Me, and Apryl. We've had enough of our parents controlling our lives. We ran away. Uhm... Apryl bought plane tickets to Florida and well, here we are!"
"Really?" Torrie asked in half disbelief and half excitement.
"Yeah. So, since we've all graduated from high school and all that, can we move in? You do have room, right?"
"Of course I have room! I have way too much room in this house. Even with Lynn and Cody."
"Lynn and Cody are there?" Katie asked.
"Yeah. They moved in last week. I was getting a bit lonely, being in such a big house all by myself."
"And you thought Cody'd cheer you up," Katie laughed.
Torrie grinned, but said nothing, then she asked. "So, where are you?"
"In a taxi, heading for Dolphin Falls. Anyway, make room for us. We're almost there and, Apryl's cell phone battery's almost dead."
"Okay. Bye!" Torrie said and, hung up the phone. She sighed and, got up. "Time to tell the others."
She pulled open the screen door and, to her surprise she saw Lynn and Cody standing right there with a phone in hand.
"What the hell are you doing?" Torrie shrieked.
Cody and Lynn cowered.
"She's not coming here is she?" Cody asked with much annoyance.
"Yes. Katie and her friend Apryl are moving in."
Cody groaned. Katie and Cody never really got along at all. Lynn and Katie had been friends for a long time though, until...they started hating each other. Poor Apryl barely knew anyone who was living here.
"They're almost here. Cody, I want you to order a couple pizzas, please make sure you order both pepperoni AND vegetarian this time. Lynn and I will straighten up the Middle Room. Okay?" Torrie said quickly.
They all nodded and went about to their jobs as fast as possible. The pizza had just arrived when Torrie heard a car pull up to the curb of the house.
Torrie ran to the door dodging walls and furniture as she went, and flung it open just in time to see a bright yellow taxi drive away, leaving Katie and Apryl on the curb with their suitcases. Apryl was chasing after the taxi, screaming obscenities at the driver. He still had her cat in the backseat. The taxi stopped and the driver basically threw the cat carrier out of the taxi and sped off.
Katie glared at the departing taxi and turned to see Torrie laughing her head off at the scene.
Torrie froze and smiled at her friend who had changed so much. Katie did enjoy wearing dark colors on the weekends but when they went to school her parents had forced her to be what they called "normal." Katie hated it so much and finally rebelled against her parents. This seemed to be another one of her rebellions. She was wearing all black, very dark make-up, and had bright blue streaks in her hair.
Apryl hadn't changed much at all. Torrie had met her breifly in a Sun Valley Middle School Winter Band Concert. She wore shorts that seemed to once be blue jeans and a long tee shirt with "Save the Whales" written on it. She was a kind of modern day hippie, minus the drugs. Her long blonde hair bounced gently as she made her way back to the driveway with her cat.
"Damn... This is one big house..." Katie mused as she looked up at the large two-story in awe.
"Yeah. I guess. Come inside. We've got pizza," Torrie said cheerfully as she showed them inside.
"Cool. I haven't eaten since we left North Carolina," Apryl said joyfully as she walked inside, carrying all of her luggage.
Torrie led Apryl and Katie into the large house and showed them around while Cody took their luggage and put it upstairs in the room they had always called the 'Middle Room'.
The upstairs area is where all of the bedrooms were. Three of the rooms were right beside each other, connected by doors. Only one room was away from these other rooms and that was Torrie and Lynn's and it was right in front of Cody's room. Those two rooms were at the very end of the hallway farthest away from the stairs. Katie and Apryl's room was to be right beside Cody's, the room in the middle.
Finally everyone sat down at the dining room table to begin the feast of pepperoni pizza, vegetarian pizza (for Katie, Apryl, and Torrie), and cold sodas (even though Cody insisted on having beer but Lynn intervened).
"So... Uhm..." Lynn began awkwardly. This was quite a surprise to her that one of her old friends' and her friend's friend moved in so quickly.
"This sucks," Cody moaned.
"What the hell is your problem?" Katie asked as she placed a slice of vegetarian pizza on her plate.
"There's four freakin' girls in this house and one guy here."
"I thought you'd enjoy that," Katie said. She pretended to have forgotten and smacked herself upside the head. "Oh man. I forgot. You're gay. I'm sorry. Jeez... Sorry, man."
Torrie, Lynn, and Apryl started laughing hysterically while Cody glared daggers at Katie.
"I'm not gay," he mumbled.
"Uh-huh," Katie said sarcastically.
"Shut up," Cody hissed.
"Yes, Ma'am. Er... Sir. Wait... Hold on... If you're gay but you're a guy, you would still be 'sir' right?" Katie started to say.
"Shut the fuck up!" Cody yelled standing up, and slamming his hands on the table.
Katie sat back and crossed her arms, her eyes glaring at Cody, being insolent. She leaned across the table and shoved her face right in his.
"Make me," she whispered.
"Katie...." Apryl trailed, trying to bring Katie back into reality.
Katie looked up at Apryl and stood up.
"I suppose we should get started on setting our room up," Katie said to Apryl, trying to be rid of the awkward silence that followed Apryl's last words.
"Yeah."
Katie and Apryl left the dining room silently and made their way up to the Middle Room to set up their room.
The moment they left Lynn slapped Cody across the face.
