Chronicle Two/Chapter Ten: Preparing For The Camping Trip

On the ride home from the Laser Quest place Torrie drove. After fighting with Cody about it, she drove. Cody sat in the passenger seat.

"Torrie... are you sure you even have your lisence?" Cody asked holding on to his seat as Torrie swerved around all the cars on the highway.

"Fuck yeah, hehe, I might have scared them half to death several times, but I got it,"

"So... did everyone have fun?" Apryl asked.

"I DID!! OH HOW MUCH FUN I HAD!" Torrie yelled.

"Yeah, we know you had fun," Katie mumbled, trying to rid the memory of catching her and Dylan.

"I did up until that fight thing," Apryl said.

"What fight?"

"Oh, Cody decided to be a bastard to his fucking girlfriend about his past and dragged the rest of us into it. You were mentioned several times," Katie said shortly.

"I was mentioned?" Torrie asked, letting her eyes glance off of the road to Cody then back to Katie then back to the road.

"Yeah. Something about you and him getting drunk and--"

"Katie!" Michael yelled, "Shut up!"

"But Torrie has a right to know!"

"She should be left in the dark on this one!"

Katie's eye twitched. "Leave her in the dark? After all of the shit you left me in the dark about and then yelled at me and my fucking friends about leaving you in the dark, you are going to fucking tell me to leave her in the dark? I think not!"

"Katie, that was a long time ago..."

"Shut the fuck up! I don't care how long ago that was!"

"I changed."

"Leopards can't change their stripes."

Michael paused, "Leopards don't have stripes."

Katie froze. "Shut up, they do now. Anyway, back to the fight--"

"If you don't shut up, I'm going to sit on you."

"Bring it on."

Michael unbuckled his seatbelt and stumbled over to Katie's seat and sat on her.

"Hey!" Josh yelled. "That's my job."

Katie fought her way around Michael's curly hair, "Do you think I'm enjoying this?"

"Yeah!" Torrie yelled from the driver's seat.

"SHUT UP TORRIE!"

"Okay anyway! Tell me the rest of this fight story," Torrie demanded.

"Torrie, that happened hours ago, it doesn't matter now,"

"Now, it had to do with me, therefore I need to know,"

"No you don't!"

"Okay, I'll make you a deal, I'll stop the van and get us all killed or you tell me what the fuck happened,"

"She'll do it too!" Katie and Cody yelled at the same time.

Apryl and Josh were just staring at the window, because Josh frankly didn't care, and Apryl didn't feel like hearing it all over again.

"No you won't... you wouldn't kill your friends," Michael mumbled.

"Well, okay, but your not my friend... unless you let Katie tell me what the fuck went on,"

"No,"

"Okay then you asked for it," And Torrie slammed on the breaks.

"TORRIE! OKAY OKAY!!" Michael yelled, and Torrie started going again, lucky there wasn't anyone directly behind her.

"Michael..." Katie's voice was heard.

"What?"

"Can't...breathe..."

Michael got up and sat back down in his seat, obviously pissed off.

"Okay, the deal is that Apryl wanted to know why I knew all that stuff about Katy McPeeks so she was told the story of the drunken madness that happened between you and him." Katie said, breathing the air as if it would vanish again.

"Oh... wait... you knew?!"

"Now we do," Apryl mumbled.

"Yeah... I knew,"

"Oh... Why didn't you tell me?"

"'Cause, well I told Michael, and I wasn't supposed to tell anyone anyway,"

"Oh... well... why did you tell Michael and not Torrie... me! TORRIE!" Torrie asked as she beeped at the car in front of her that wouldn't move even though the light that they had stopped at turned green, "Bitch..."

"Umm... 'Cause he was there,"

"He was there?" Torrie asked.

"Yeah!" Apryl said taking sudden interest in the turn of the converstation, "Why was he there? You never said!"

"Will not answer that question!" Katie said quickly.

"Yes you will," Torrie stated, "Or the car gets crashed,"

"Well crash the car!"

"KATIE!" Everybody yelled.

"Okay, the van has spoken," Torrie grinned and glanced behind her and slammed the breaks.

BEEEEEP! The car behind her beeped, "Fuck! Goddammit!" Torrie mumbled and sped on down the road.

"Now... tell me or it happens again,"

"Okay, okay! I'll tell you..." Katie started, "See Michael was there because... well," Katie sighed, and made a dramatic pause.

"Well?" Josh repeated.

"Well... he was there because," Katie glanced behind her at Michael, "Sorry man... He was there because he was fixing my computer..."

"Katie! I can't believe you told them!" Michael squeaked saracastically.

"I know I know... I'm sorry,"

"I don't believe you..." Torrie laughed, "Now really what was he doing over there? Or should I say what were yall doing... wait!! I DON'T WANNA KNOW!! DON'T TELL ME!!"

"We didn't!"

"Psh."

"What do you think Apryl, and Josh... should we believe her?"

"No."

"Whatever... believe what you want..." Katie shook her head and looked out the window.

"Okay... I will." Torrie mumbled.

"Come on, Katie! Seriously, what was he doing over there?" Josh asked, the curiousity was getting the best of him.

"I told you already!"

"But I don't believe you!"

"Hey Josh, wanna know a secret?" Katie asked.

"Yeah!"

"I DON'T CARE!"

"Fine... be that way..." Josh crossed his arms and started to pout. But he started back up again, this time asking Michael, "Okay since Katie won't tell me, what were you doing over there?"

"Fixing her computer."

"I don't believe you... Come on man seriously!! I won't tell her you told me!"

"Even if something did happen do you think I'd tell you?"

Josh paused, "Yeah."

"Pfft. Wrong answer."

"Nuh-uh!"

"Umm... yeah-huh."

"NUH-UH!"

"Fuck off you annoying son of a bitch."

"Hey," Katie said, "Be nice."

"Since when are you going to tell me to be nice?" Michael asked irritably.

"Since now," Katie answered.

"Please Katie," Josh begged. "I'll be your best friend."

"Wow," came Katie's sarcastic reply, "What a deal. Tell you what you already know and you get to be my best friend. Woo."

"What do you mean I already know? Oh my God, I'm right! You two were making out and crap!"

Katie rolled her eyes, "Yes, Josh," she said dryly, "We were having a wonderful time doing that all night."

Josh's eyes widened in horror and shock. "Seriously?"

Katie and Michael nodded gravely. Torrie and Apryl were cracking up.

Josh turned to Michael, "Was it good?"

"JOSH!"

Torrie started laughing hysterically and almost slammed the van into the median.

"Oh yes, it was great." Michael said. Katie grinned evilly in the background.

Josh opened his mouth to ask another question but Torrie screamed, "BUTT VIBRATOR!"

Torrie turned the music up as loud as it could go, followed by the treble and bass knobs. The car was shaking and Josh was still talking, thinking they could hear him.

After about five minutes later Josh got the hint that nobody could hear him and nobody cared about what he had to say so he shut up and listened to the loud rock that was playing along with everyone else.

About 20 minutes later, they turned into the sub-division of Dolphin Falls, the music was still blasting. It woke up most of the sleeping neighbors, but nobody in the conversion van really cared.

After Torrie parked the car, and everyone filed out, and went to their seperate places. Katie and Apryl went to their room. Michael went to the bathroom to take a shower. Josh went to the rec room, and Cody was about to follow Josh but Torrie grabbed his arm.

"You're not going anywhere, I have to talk to you young Codith,"

"How many times have I frickin' told you to not call me that?"

"And how many times have I told you I would call you whatever the fuck I wanted to?"

Cody rolled his eyes and let Torrie drag him into the living room.

"Now, why did you tell everyone, when you told me not to tell?" Torrie questioned Cody.

"Because they wanted to know, and wouldn't leave me alone until I told them."

"Oh... But... I mean... come on!"

"What?"

"You could have lied," Torrie mumbled grabbing the remote and turning the channels until she found Fuse. Rockzilla was on.

"What would be the point in lying? They would have found out anyway."

"Yeah... but..."

"And why do you even care they know? I mean they are your friends, and if I hadn't of told you not to tell them you would have."

"So? Well actually I would have told Lynn, and Katie. That's it."

"But you would have still told them."

"So?" Torrie snapped.

"The point is that you would have told two people who live in this house and now you are lecturing me on telling them."

"I am not fucking lecturing you! I'M PISSED OFF! For the record, I would not have told Josh or Apryl or Michael." She spat his name out. "The point is that, in this conversation, you told me never to tell anyone and that you wouldn't tell anyone. I kept my fucking side of this damn promise and you didn't."

"It wasn't a promise!"

"I DON'T CARE!"

Josh was wandering down the stairs but after seeing Torrie screaming that she didn't care, Josh slowly walked backwards back to the rec room.

"Well I do!"

"Liar! You never care about anything! Not Apryl, not Josh, not the house, anyone's feelings, Katy McPeeks. Nothing."

"I do too care!"

"Name one thing you care about!"

Cody paused for a second. Torrie smiled. "That's what I thought. You don't care about anything." The lostprophets song Last Train Home was on. Torrie jacked the volume up.

Cody opened his mouth to say something but Torrie raised her hand. "Shut up and go away."

"Torrie--"

"YOU HEARD ME!"

Cody rolled his eyes, and started to get up. But Torrie jumped up and pulled him back down. "Sit"

"But you told--"

"Since when did people listen to me, now sit."

Cody, scared to be attacked, sat down and stared at the wall.

"Sorry..." Torrie mumbled and walked up to her room.

When Torrie got to her room, she remembered that they were going camping and that they all be packing. So she walked over to the intercom, and pushed the all house button, "Hey people! Since we are going camping I think everybody should start packing! Cause... if we don't... then... you will be all not ready to leave... SO START PACKING!!"

"What if I dunwanna?" Josh asked through the intercom.

Torrie paused and shook her head, "Well, you can suck it up, be a man and pack anyway!"

"Fine!"

"FINE!"

"FINE!"

"Shut up."

"Okay."

Josh started to walk into his room, but he paused when he reached his bed. "Hmm..." He walked over to the door that connected his room to Katies, twisted the knob and walked in.

Katie jumped up from her seat by her laptop, "Get out."

"Is that how you treat your boyfriend?" Apryl asked from her dresser. A pink backpack was slowly being filled with Apryl's camping trip clothes.

"Technically, he isn't my boyfriend."

"Yes I am."

"Shut up, get out."

"I love you, Katie," Josh said cutely.

Katie's response was throwing a book at him. "Get out."

Josh sat down by Katie. Katie mumbled curses and sat five feet away from him. "What?"

"I want you to tell me--Wait, no. Can you get Michael in here and Apryl out?" Josh asked.

Katie glared at him but Apryl peeked her head in Michael's room and yelled for him to get in the room. Michael appeared and Apryl left.

"What?" Michael sat down.

"Tell me more about what we were talking about in the car." Josh added, "Please."

Katie growled. "Nothing happened!"

Michael said, "We were being sarcastic."

"Lies! Something happened and that's why you are getting all mad at me!"

"We're getting mad at you because you are stupid."

"Look, Josh," Katie said. "My hard drive was fried or something and I know nothing about fixing computers. My dad does but he could honestly care less. Michael knows how so I asked him over to fix my computer."

"At night?"

"Yeah. I couldn't have him waltzing in with my parents awake."

"So you thought it would be better if he came at night? When they were sleeping?" Josh said skeptically.

"No Josh, during the day when they're awake," Michael said sarcastically.

"Don't you realize what happens when a guy and girl are in the same room alone at night?" Josh asked.

"Yeah, we took sex ed along with you, Josh, but nothing happened." Katie paused. "Other than Cody's stupid sex thing."

"Oh... but--"

"Josh shut up! Nothing happened!"

Josh stared at Katie for a couple seconds, then got up, "Fine, I believe you..."

"Finally!" Katie and Michael mumbled at the same time.

"Well... I guess I should get to packing for the trip... I think you two should do the same..." Josh suggested as he walked out of her room, leaving the door open behind him.

Katie jumped up and slammed it closed.

"Okay... well... you heard the midget, start packing!" Katie ordered Michael.

"No!"

"Yes..."

"You can't boss me around like that,"

"Watch me, Go pack." Katie demanded.

"So demanding!"

"Yes... I know..."

Michael opened his mouth to say something, but stopped and walked out.

Katie shook her head and started to pack.

Torrie after packing half of her clothes into one bag, got up and went to find Cody, he was still in the living room, now the channel was on MTV2.

"Hey Cody..." Torrie started.

"What do you want?"

"Umm... umm... well," Torrie searched her mind for a question to ask, "Uh... Wheres Lynn?!"

"Probley at Connors,"

"Oh.."

Torrie sat down on the couch beside Cody, and watched the TV for a second. "You should start to pack for the trip..."

"I will later,"

"Okay..." Torrie continued to watch TV, they where playing some of the older songs, playing at the moment, just had to be Dirty by Christina Aguilera. Cody seemed to enjoy it.

Once it was over, Torrie apologized, "Sorry for being all... mean earlier... I... well... I don't know..."

Cody didn't say anything, he was still peeved about it.

Torrie paused, "Well, I still think you should get started packing... and I am still sorry..." Torrie paused again seeing if he would say anything, and when he didn't she hugged him and got up and ran to her room to finish packing.

Cody just sat there, he looked around the room. "Okay then..." It was odd that Torrie hugged him, but whatever. After just sitting on the couch for a couple more seconds, he got up and walked to his room to start packing. 'This is going to be a long trip,' He thought, 'A very long trip,'

Meanwhile, Lynn walked into the living room of Connors house carrying a can of sprite, and sat down beside Connor on the couch.

"Hmm... I wonder what everybody is up too..." Lynn mumbled as she took a sip of her sprite.

"Probley getting ready to leave for that camping trip, don't they leave tommorow?" Connor replied, glancing at Lynn then back to the TV.

"Oh yeah! I almost forgot!" Lynn exclaimed jumping up.

"Why don't you call them or something?" Connor suggested.

"Good idea!" Lynn rushed for the phone, and picked it up and quickly dialed the Amazing Co-Ed House of Doom's number.

The phone rang about three times before someone picked up, "What?"

"Hey, uhm... This is Lynn," Lynn said lamely, already forgetting why she was calling.

"Oh," the person on the other line said, "Okay then. Do you want me to get Torrie?"

"Sure."

"All right," the person said and yelled at someone in the background, "Yo! Michael! Go get Torrie!"

"Why?"

"Lynn."

"What about Lynn?"

By the time Lynn figured she was talking to Katie.

"Lynn's on the other line, O Smart One, so please go get Torrie!"

"Okay, okay! Leaving now..." Shuffle, shuffle, then: "TORRIE! PICK UP THE PHONE! LYNN'S ON THE OTHER END!"

There was an indistinct yell.

"I DON'T CARE! ANSWER!"

Someone picked up the phone, "The Amazing Co-Ed House of Doom, Torrie speaking."

"Can I go now?" Katie asked.

"You are dismissed."

"YES!" Katie hung up.

"Hey Torrie!" Lynn said excitedly.

"Hey Lynn!" Torrie replied in mock excitement.

"Well someone doesn't seem to happy to talk... Do I need to go?" Lynn asked slightly insulted.

"Nah... Sorry... Just umm... tired,"

"Oh.."

"Anyway... Whats up?" Torrie asked trying to start a conversation.

"Nothing much, just decided to call before you guys left for the camping trip, sup with you?"

"Cool, and nothin much, talking to you, and packing..."

"Oh okay, thats cool,"

"Yep..."

Silence.

"Well uh... wanna talk to Cody?" Torrie asked.

"Sure!"

"CODY!" Torrie shrieked. Lynn winced.

A man, presumably Cody, yelled back, "What the fuck do you want now?"

"Oh aren't we in a pleasant mood!"

"I was happy until you screamed my name!"

"Happy doing what? Jacking off?" Katie called.

"Shut up!"

"You know I'm right!"

No response.

"I was right! Holy crap!"

"What do you want, Torrie?" Cody asked. He seemed closer to the telephone now.

"Lynn wants to talk to you."

"What did I do now?"

"Guilty conscience?"

"STUPID MASTERBATOR!!" Katie yelled.

"SHUT UP!"

There was laughter and Cody took the phone from Torrie. "Yo."

Lynn snickered. "Yo? What are you now? The North Carolinian version of Eminem?"

"Stupid wigger!" someone said on Cody's end.

"KATIE! GET OFF THE PHONE!"

"SHE ISN'T ON THE PHONE!" Michael said from the phone.

"Yes, I am."

Silence.

"Smart, Katie, real smart."

"GET OFF THE PHONE!"

"Yes ma'am!" There was a sound of two phones hanging up.

"Back on topic, hello!" Cody said.

"Hey!"

"Whats up?" Cody asked.

"Nothing really, just calling to see what yall were up too, what you up too?"

"Pfft... nothing..."

"Oh really?"

"Yes really,"

"Uh-huh..."

Silence.

"So... what have you done lately that was exciting?"

"Well we went to laser quest last night, it was an all night thing..."

"Oh? Did anything happen?"

"Yeah... I don't want to talk about it though,"

"Why?" Lynn questioned.

"Because I just don't!"

"Come on Cody!"

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"What are you guys talking about?" Connor asked. He had gotten up to get something and had just come back when Lynn was saying 'come on cody' and 'please'.

"Heh, wouldn't you like to know?"

"Yes, I would," Connor said.

Lynn gave him a look.

"Okay, okay, leaving you alone now. What do you want for breakfast?"

"Uhm... Whatever you want," Lynn said.

" 'Kay," Connor left the room.

"Please tell me Cody!"

"No!"

"Fine..."

"Well I really should be getting back to packing,"

"Okay... bye..."

"Bye."

Cody hung up the phone and continued his packing.

Through out the rest of the day, everyone finished packing. And eventually everyone ended up in the living room to watch a movie. After the movie ended the group started off torwards their rooms.

As the group was trooping together up the staircase to their rooms, Josh looked over at Katie.

"Where are you sleeping tonight?" Josh asked.

Katie stared at him, "If I do sleep tonight, my room. Where else?"

"How about my room?" Josh said.

Michael groaned, "That was one of the worst pick-up lines I have ever heard."

"Do you have a problem with my pick-up lines?" Josh asked.

"Yeah, they suck," Michael answered. The group was nearing the landing.

"Guys, please," Katie said irritably. "We're all tired. There is no need whatsoever for you and Josh to get into a fight over something really stupid, such as a pick-up line."

The boys were silent, for Katie forced them to see the light.

Josh suddenly, in a fit of rage, shoved Michael into the wall and ran into his room, shutting and locking the door behind him.

Michael yelled in surprise and got up quickly. He raced to Josh's door and started pounding on it. The group watched and sighed.

Katie motioned for Cody to start banging on the door and Michael moved away. Katie led him through her room to the connecting door to Josh and Cody's.

Michael ran into the room and proceeded to beat the living daylights out of the defenseless sidekick.

After a couple minutes, Michael got tired of beating up Josh, plus Josh was already bruised up pretty bad, bleeding, and crying. So, Michael left Josh and Cody's room and went to his own.

"Nice way to start out a soon to be camping trip," Torrie mumbled, "Cody, you can fix the broken sidekick can't you? And if his cast got broken...again, tell me and we can take him to the hospital... again,"

"Yeah and whatever," Cody mumbled going to his room through Katie's room.

"You okay?"

"Does it look like I'm okay?" Josh asked irritably.

Cody looked at Josh.

"No..."

"Well then could ya help me?"

"What do you want me to help you do?" Cody asked.

"Just help me..."

"Help you what?"

"Help."

"Goddammit, Josh! Tell me what I can do to help so I can help and then I can fucking go to sleep, okay? I'm the damn driver and I can't afford to fall asleep at the wheel!" Cody said in a fit of rage.

"Help..."

"That's it!" Cody grabbed Josh and flung Josh onto his bed. Cody turned off the light and went to his bed, falling asleep in minutes.
