Greenboughs

Greenboughs waving against the sky

The sky so blue a cloud a lie

The grass rolling under my feet

Running so fast a stream to meet

I lie and gaze about the mire

To fly yet higher my heart's desire

My mind sun-soaked wanders lazy

The smell of earth the air hazy

A magpie falls the river calls

Ahead a woodpecker determined boars

Holes in a silent suf'ring oak

Quietly he bears it

Slyly he scars it

And the bird retreats

Uncontrite
