Chapter 2

After driving for three hours we end up in the middle of nowhere.

"Why did we stop? We're not out of gas." I asked

"This is it" Kenny answered

"You're kidding, here? What the hell is here?"

"You community service"

"Tell me again what it is I'm doing here"

"You'll figure it out soon" They both gave each other looks

"Listen, any agent and lawyer would tell their client what their plans are"

"You should be thanking us for what we got you out of, now get out of the car"

We must be in Jersey. The town was small, not that small, but small for someone used to cites. For a city boy like me, anything's small when it doesn't have a subway. We entered a big building(for this town) that had a restaurant in front. There was a blond plump lady with long fake nails, wearing tacky jewelry and sequined shirt, sitting in the booth. Now I'm really scared.

"You're late" She stated

"Sorry Joanne, the traffic was bad" Kenny told her

"Sure. Come with me I'll show you the stage"

She led us to a back door and opened it. I was shocked the theater was huge, almost as big as the Apollo. How can a small town have a theater this big, I mean do they have enough people in town to fill it? This is my community service, performing for this town for free, but performing what? Singing? My voice was good, I mean I could really do challenging notes, but I never sang because I didn't have the right voice, so would really want to hear me sing if they never heard me sing. Then again it was free so anybody would see a has been sing for free.

"Nice theater" I complemented "Why a big theater here?"

"Because we're popular and people come from all over to our shows"

"Oh I see, sorta like a entertainment for town folk who can't afford to go anywhere else" I said

"Yeah, that's it" she said in a sarcastic tone

"So are there really that many people who want to hear me sing?"

"If you're good"

"Oh I'm good" I look at her in poise

"Then sing"

"Say what?"

"You heard me, sing"

"Sing what?"

"Anything"

"There's no music"

"I want to hear your voice, this is an audition incase you don't remember"

"Or weren't told" I glared at Kenny and my father

"Anything, right?" I assured

"Anything"

What the hell was I going to sing? I need music, I need cues, I need a microphone. Wait a minute, theirs is this one song, a song I loved as a kid that I know I can sing perfect without music. The song that I would always sing alone in my room as a kid playing air guitar...

"Any minute now"

"Come on Kelly we don't have all—"

"Okay, I need a little back up. You, when I point to you you'll say 'Don't', you'll say 'Stop', you 'Me'" I need one more person, I saw a girl in the back of the theater by the door waiting, she was plain in a sweat shirt and jean and no make up with her face hidden by hair and glasses "And you!" I called to her, she was startled "Come up here" She slowly came up "You'll say 'Now'"

"Umn okay" she said quietly as she sat down in a seat next to the three of them

"What's the point of this Kelly?" Kenny asked

"Just do as I say"

"I don't see—"

I interrupted him by signing, "Tonight I'm going to have myself a really good time, I feel aliivvee,

and the world it's turning inside out Yeah!" I sing
I'm floating around in ecstasy
So.." I point to Kenny

"don't" he says

I point the next "stop" He says looking at me like I'm crazy

I point to Joanne "Me" she smiles in annoyance

I then point to the quiet girl "now" she says shrinking back

I point to all of them again and they kind off are starting to get the hang of it. I sing on,"'Cause I'm having a good time having a good time
I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go
There's no stopping me
I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man of you"

I point to them again, some improvement, still off key

"I'm having such a good time

I'm having a ball'

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

Getting near the beat

"If you wanna have a good time just give me a call"

I point again,"Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

Much better

Point, "Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

Brilliant! I have them!

"I don't want to stop at all
I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars
On a collision course
I am a satellite I'm out of control
I am a sex machine ready to reload
Like an atom bomb about to
Oh oh oh oh oh explode
I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman out of you"

I now point to three in a rhythm

Point,"Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

"Hey hey hey!" I sing, I'm conducting them like an orchestra

Point,"Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

"Ooh ooh ooh, I like it"

Point, "Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

"having a good time good time!"

Point, "Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

"Ooh ooh Alright!" I start doing air guitar to the rhythm in my memory really getting into the act a bit…okay perhaps more than just a bit, "I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman of you"

Point, "Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

Much better, they're getting into it

"I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball"

Point, "don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

They seem to be enjoying it

"If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call"

Point, "Don't"

Point, "stop"

Point, "me"

Point, "now"

"Cause I'm having a good time"

"Don't stop me now" They sing once more, not good but at least in a beat

"That was great" Kenny is laughing with them

I'm still singing, "I don't wanna stop at all"

"Kelly?"

"La la la la laaaa"

"You can stop now Kelly"

I'm too busy singing the big finishing notes to hear him "La la la la
La la laa laa laa laaa
La la laa la la la la la laaa hey!!"

"Kelly!"

"What" I said startled at his sudden yell

"A little too much there, Kel"

"I wouldn't say that, we need too much, that's what we need to keep an audience. You got some animation and stage presence there, I like that and I'd love to see more of that when your work for us" She smiles at me and winks,"You're right" She whispers "He's like a Donny Osmond mixed with John Travolta, just brilliant"

"So am I going to always sing accopello like this or did you guys hire a band for this charity concerts?" I asked pretending that I didn't hear her rude comment towards me

"You didn't tell him?" She asked suddenly looking nervous

"It never came up"

What never came up?! What are they hiding?! Oh no it can't! They wouldn't! He wouldn't, not again! "Tell me what? You do want me for charity concerts, right?"

"I want you all right, you passed the audition, and we don't do charity concerts Hon, we do musicals"

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody is going to die. MUSICALS!! Have I really sunk that low? This just has to be some cruel joke. I can just imagine this showing up in VH1's Behind the Music. Musical?

"You said—"I could barely keep calm, I'm hyperventilating

"We didn't say anything"

"Yes you did, you told me—"

"You assumed"

"I'm leaving, sorry Joanne but I'm not interested" I said before I storm out

"Kelly!"

"Excuse us for a moment"

There's no way I'm doing this. There has to be something else, anything else! I'd rather serve in dirty soup kitchens than dress up like pansy for all to see. I'd rather work in nursing homes than dance. I'd rather be in jail than singing…okay maybe singing is slightly better…but still anything is better than being in a musical!

"Listen I know this is far from what you're used to" My father said grabbing my arm like I was eleven again

"Far, huh? You think?!"

"It'll only be for awhile"

"That sounds familiar, hum, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, it's all coming back, you said the same thing when I was fourteen when you drove me to the middle of nowhere and dropped me at some boarding school for a year"

"It wasn't a year…God why are we arguing about this again?! It has nothing to do with this!"

It had everything to do with this, the reason why I could never trust him. I was fourteen, he and mom told me we were going to Disneyworld, and where we winded up was some prep school of snobs. And they dumped me there all alone so that they can get a divorce behind my back. Since they did that to me, at seventeen I dropped out and ran away with Billy, then my best friend and bad influence, behind their backs.

After I came back, defeated and dependant, he became my lawyer. And just this week he asked me if I wanted to move back home, where he can give me a job in his practice, a secretarial one of licking stamps, shredding papers, and filing. There's actually one thing I'd chose musicals over…for anything's better than crawling back.

"I'll do it then" I finally said ineffective

AN:

Xenila Poe: yeah I know, my grammer's crap. I'm an aspiring screen writer trying to write novels(in fear of selling a screenplay and having it be butchered)so that's probably why my descriptions sound like comments(because I'm used to commenting to the reader on how the scene and character is set)With me I'm good with plots but putting them to page is another story. That's why I never written one, I can think of a whole plot in a day, sometimes an hour, but putting it to page it's hard because 1) I don't have the patience to stay on one story(once I plan out the story I'm done). I get bored quick and think up another plot 2) I'm lazy and can't sit down long enough to write. Don't get me wrong, I love to write, well think up plots that is. And my characters may seem boring and stereotypical at first but I promise you in my stories nothing is what it seems(I'm love character studies and spend a lot of amount of time creating, I know every one of my character's life story) Now I highly suggest that you read my other stories, because this one I taking that seriously, I don't think I'll ever publish it, possibly I might make it into a screenplay and pitch it. I writing this story for fun(well I plotted it out for fun lol) and my other stories are more original(if you like original) this story is to sum it up Cutting Edge-meets-Sister Act-with a twist(one thing I'm really good at is combining non-original stories together and making them somewhat original)Enemies & Lovers is the story I'm taking seriously and is a huge epic character and relationship study(much like Amadeus, not plot wise but genre) and I'm hoping to finish and publish that(Same with my other story Midland)I really hope you'll take a look at them because I need more help with them. Thank you so much for your input. BTW I'm from California so that might be the reason for the valley talk lol(it's the worst habit to break)
