The Bridge is all crumbled

The water soaks into rocks

That fell at the bottom of the road (at the end of the town)

That town that we lived in

The memories shaken apart from the weeds that grow.

I skipped a rock over the pool water and my feet left foot marks in the weeds as I grabbed for another one. At the bottom of the old pool were a whole bunch of rocks. My wrist sprang back again and another rock hit the side and sank to the bottom leaving a ripple in its wake.

Over the sidewalks

Running away from the streets we knew, sidewalks.

Like the time we thought was made for you

Or

10 years. 10 long years had I lived in this shack of a house with my boyfriend. Weeds gently covered the yards and left a grungey appearance on the house. The rusty house was not an eye pleaser and I scowled every time I walked over one of the shingles from the top of the house. My cut off pants ended between my kness and ankles and were frayed from wear. Both hands shoved in my back pockets neslted there for comfort as they had been for years. The hot sun was beating down on my shoulders left bare from my white and black tank top.

Out on the front porch,

Watching the cars as they go by,

(18 blue, 21 grey)

Looking ahead for the first time

That we could drive,

Out on our own,

To speed away,

With a sudden burst of agility I pushed my trucker hat back on properly and I went off running. The gate gave a loud bang as I shoved it open and left it slam close. Nothing could've stopped me now. I was making good time and everything was a blur as I passed by it. Sweat was already rolling down my forehead thanks to the midsummer heat.

From the sidewalks

Running away from the streets we knew,

Sidewalks,

Like the time we thought was made for you

Or

With each step I gained more speed and got a sense of independence. Sometimes you just have to get away and this was that time. My hands were balled into fists and I felt like I had regained the power that I hadn't seen for ten years, at least.

All of the days have passed us by,

All of the sun is goneā€¦ away

Soon it was dark and I stopped running. With my hands on my knees and my breath ragged and heavy I had to think. Was I turn to turn around and make my way back home? Or would I stay away forever. There was no reason for me to stay here.

Sidewalks,

Running away from the streets we knew,

With a smooth turn of the heel I made my way to the nearest phone booth. Each button breaking the street'ssilence with a beep.

Sidewalks,

Running away from the streets we knew,

Sidewalks,

Like time we thought was made for you,

(Sidewalks)

The bridgges are crumbled,

The water soaks into rocks,

(Sidewalks)

That fell at the bottom of the road.

"Matt? Can you pick me up and I'm not at my place."
