Winter Before the Epilogue

Nomadic turning of the autumn leaves,
Drifting across that summer grass as it departs life.
Stained beneath dried blood of trees,
Crushed under steps taken astray,
Amid restless glances into true and false

Vacant horizon athwart dusk blue;
Hazed reflection of the sun streaked on clouds,
Drowning in the sky it lights,
As the restive moon stirred too slowly to see.
And you and I…

A promise I've failed to uphold.
You, trusting my eyes too soon;
Hand in mine as your shine steamed,
A hold lubricated by words I didn't yield,
And a twilight fell on yesterday.

Whilst the summer nights have elapsed,
The fading emerged intent…

Tarnished pearl, minor to light,
Silver stars ceased to be drops of paint,
So alight with soulful devotion in night's eyes,
With rose coloured glasses, awaiting tomorrow.
Sorrow reflected on empty seas,
Fatigued and paled as daybreak descends,
Night attained the sense of bliss -
But wished amiss on the shooting star…

Chasing scattered leaves as they fall,
As forget-me-nots are dying with vow.
But forget me – knots that don't unravel,
Eternal and despondent cycles to travel
To keep hold as all slips from their arms.

Endless and ever-fleeting nights,
Autumn sleeps only to dream of summer,
Because the only fine print in her dreams
Is to awaken once the warmth sought is found.
And you and I…

There was not a prologue, or chance to be seen
And I wonder, what if I had known:
Of farewells as the mornings stirred in rest,
Closing my eyes with your words in my head,
And the one legacy of dreams, a chain to life?

As the promises embraced were cracked,
The long forgotten oaks wept…

Tarnished pearl, minor to light,
Too swiftly did sunset pursue dawn ,
So swift, with downcast resolve in night's eyes,
With amnesty for tears, awaiting tomorrow.
Sorrow reflected on glittering seas,
Fatigued and paled as daybreak descends,
Night attained that sense of bliss -
But wished amiss re her shining star…

The hardest thing is to break the silence with hello.
What could bridge the line, so fine and defined?
They revealed their darkness and their light -
But the sun holds secrets obscured by illume,
And the moon veils regrets in the night.

Days eased by, naught changed, to sight,
But page one of once reveals no end:
Blue skies grey, life drifts into wakeful rest,
And the leaves swept out of autumn's hands,
Because you and I…

Now I relive a summer rainstorm as October dies,
Amidst echoes of thunder that remain.
Yes, you're within me as I stumble,
My balance, solace, the sweet instability -
And snowflakes fall before the epilogue.

To treasure silence and to long for talk,
What does the blinding light hide?

Tarnished pearl, minor to light,
Silver stars ceased to be drops of paint,
So alight with soulful devotion in night's eyes,
With rose coloured glasses, awaiting tomorrow.
Sorrow reflected on empty seas,
Fatigued and paled as daybreak descends,
Night attained the sense of bliss -
But wished amiss on the shooting star…

These winds swirl and take me
As I seek to close them in my hands,
And I'd go, but I'd rather dream
Because the only fine print in dreams is to awaken -
To always awaken…
