Silent Farewell

Your skin is pale

As with this place

Washes in white:

The colour of death.

My soul is numb

Watching you sleep;

This aching sorrow

It falls as tears.

I am here

Don't you know?

Giving my last respect -

This distasteful act.

I brought you flowers

Fresh and frail

But your eyes are closed

No longer seeing;

I call your name

The lonely one

But your ears are shut

No longer hearing;

Lilies and daisies

They framed your face

But your lips are sealed

No longer smiling.

You left me

For this grim journey,

As I leave you

A marble statue

Whispering my farewell.
