Ok I'm going to see if I suck at this as much as I do at fanfics. Enjoy.

The carriage hurried quickly over the road as the rain beat a rhythm on its roof. Lave looked out at her reflection in the blackened window. She looked the complete opposite of how she felt. She was the image of perfection, beautiful full black gown with her hair up in a curling bun. She scowled. Inside she felt like she would burst. Her father and she were leaving her mother's funeral.

No one knew how she died. She had left on one of her normal expeditions and had not returned. Her father, Sirio, worried, had called on his servant to look for her. The servant returned three days later with her mother's body in a coffin. Lave had wanted to see her mother to say good bye but her father refused. He looked at the body paled, and shut the coffin. Lave had almost opened the coffin to see for herself but was too afraid at whatever lay inside. She had some feeling it wasn't her mother. She frowned. But it was her mother, the servant and her father had recognized the body. Then why… She was pulled out of her thought by her father's voice.

"Dear, Lave. You are eighteen years old now. It's time for you to know." Lave's ears perked up. She had heard rumors about her family but didn't know what to believe.

"You are the next descendent of the Maggent line."

"I know that father"

"This has more meaning then you think. You will be called to finish the task your mother could not complete. The task that finished her. You will be…" He stopped abruptly. The carriage had stopped and the horse gave a frightened winy. Scirio paled. Lave knew why. A horse would never stop in the woods unless a Scamilion showed up. She had never seen them but heard the stories about them. Scamilion's were said to be dead but alive. She didn't know what that meant but knew if you got in their way you would be dead in two seconds flat. Her heart fluttered. The horse still didn't move. Scamilion's were a horse's worst fear. A horse would stop dead still and not move until the Scamilion passed so they couldn't be sensed by the Scamilion. While this was good for the horse, it meant people were in big trouble as nothing you do can protect you once you've been spotted.

Scirio turned to Lave. Lave get out. Run to the nearest river you see. Don't stop. I will stay. I'm not needed to…" Scirio was cut off again but a horrifying shriek. The Scamilion was approaching. Lave opened the door and burst out into the night. She was immediately drenched by the rain. Great she thought How am I going to run in this thing? She began sprinting to the woods not sure what help a river would be. After all, the creatures were out in this weather. She glanced back and immediately wished she hadn't.

There were at least 60 Scamilions. They ripped the carriage door off. Lave froze unable to move. Lave could not make out the creatures but they radiated power and magic sending a chilling fear into her bones. She heard her father shout as the creatures grabbed him. Not wanting to see him die she turned and ran hoping to beat the creatures. She wanted to help her father but her knowledge of magic was scarce and she had to stand completely still to accomplish anything and all that would do would get her killed. She knew that her father had been trying to tell her something important and knew she had to stay alive to figure out what it was and finish it.

All off the sudden she felt a hand grab her back. She tripped and fell. She had tried so hard for nothing. She turned and saw the Scamilion reaching for her. It was dressed in a blood red cape and all she could see of its face were its eyes burning red. She jumped to her feet and began running. Her dress was ripping. She ripped off the bottom as she ran so she could travel faster. The Scamilion appeared to be laughing. They were drifting lazily after her and appeared to have no worry that she would escape. She tripped again. Tripping over a rock she fell into a river. She couldn't believe it. She had fallen right into what she had been looking for the whole time.

The creatures stopped staring (she thought) at the Scamilion closest to the river. It had been sprayed with river water when she went down. It was howling and seemed to be having seizures. The other Scamilions turned and left. The Scamilion's hood flew back. Lave gasped. The creature resembled something human like. It's face was certainly human enough. However, its skin was white and its entire eye burnt red. It appeared to have lost all the muscle and cartilage in its face and the skin seemed to be decaying. It turned and Lave screamed. The creature was bald and init had a hole in its head. The head was completely empty or so it seemed. All of the sudden a Bright red thing appeared. It looked like a skinny baby and it turned its face toward Lave. It began hissing and spiting. Lave immediately covered her ears. It was a demon. It was trying to lure her out of the water to the thrashing Scamilion so it could take her life. The demon suddenly stopped. The Scamilion went still for a moment and the demon exploded. The Scamilion fell and rolled into the river.

Lave jumped away from it and was about to leave when she noticed a change in the creature. Its eyes began to burn blue. The hole began to shrink, and its face turned slowly human like. At the end of its transformation a young man of about 19 was lying in the water. It coughed and sat up. He looked around bewildered and turned to Lave.

Okay I hope that wasn't to painful. I'll write more if I get reviews… so review!! Constructive criticism would be very appreciated. Sorry about grammar I haven't gotten a beta yet
