Chapter 1- Encounter in the Park
Ryan looked up to see a very tall male figure staring down at her intently. She raised one eyebrow quizzically.
"Hey." He repeated.
"Hello…" she said cautiously, closing her notebook. "Sorry, am I in your way?" she noticed the skateboard tucked under his arm protectively.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, kind of." He shrugged.
Ryan stood up quickly and climbed down from the half-pipe she had been seated atop.
Jake sat down on his board in the middle of the ramp and continued to study the girl. She was short. Probably only about 5'1". He couldn't see the color of her eyes from this far away. Her short black hair stopped at her chin and had red streaks running through it. He wasn't sure why he had spoken to her. It wasn't something he normally would have done. There was something about her. Something he just couldn't put his finger on.
Ryan glanced quickly at the boy. She was now sitting on the steps next to the ramp. She had reopened her trusty orange notebook. He was sitting on skateboard, looking at her. He had longish, choppy hair that was a vibrant neon blue. His eyes matched his hair color perfectly. He seemed…interesting.
"So…" he started to talk to her again. "I've never seen you before."
"I'm new here."
"Really? Cool. Where are you from?" Jake wanted to know more about her.
She just shrugged.
"How old are you? Sixteen?"
She shrugged again.
"Where are you gonna be going to school?"
She shrugged a third time, then looked at her cell phone. "I have to go."
"Oh. Alrighty then." Jake said slowly. As she began to walk away, Jake called after her again. "Will you at least tell me your name?"
Ryan turned and smiled. She shrugged a final time and walked through the park gate.I hope you liked it. It's kinda short…
