"And I don't want the world to see me. Cause I don't think that they'd understand. When everything's meant to be broken, I just want you to know who I am." Goo Goo Dolls "Iris"
"Bam Please! Don't end it like this!" I pleaded, sobbing so hard that the words came out gruffly and broken.
"Go away Liz. This door will stay locked." He was trying so hard to stick to his guns, but her tears were slowly breaking him down, slowly killing him.
"No, I can't. I need your help, you said that I could come to you anytime." He couldn't do this to me, he just couldn't. There was no one else that could help me get through this. He just had to open that door.
"That was before you and Kyle ran off, without telling me. Do you know how hard it is to be told that your closest friend just got up and left. You never even left me a not Liz. How could you do that? I just wanted Kyle to die after that."
"You got your wish." I whispered so quietly that I was sure Bam couldn't hear me.
"What did you just say?" The door slowly opened and Bam was gazing at me wide eyed, I was sure he'd heard what I said.
"You got your wish."
"No, that's not true. Don't say that." I stepped into the house and out of the cold air.
"I wouldn't lie about my best friend dying."
"Shh." Bam stepped towards me and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. The tears that had been on the brink were now spilling over and I was happy there was someone to hold onto.
"Kyles dead. Kyles really dead. Oh Bam, I didn't want this. No never in a million years."
The next morning I woke up lying in Bam's bed alone. With a starge sense of loss, as if Bam was gone too, I got up from the bed and walked out of the room. I didn't bother to get dressed, mostly because it didn't occur to me that I was wandering around his house in only my underwear and tank top.
"Bam?" As I walked from Bam's bedroom to his kitchen I became aware of the unnerving quiet of the house. The sun filtered through the large windows in the front of the house, causing my shoulders to warm up as I walked past them.
"Liz? Did you call for me." Bam appeared from behind one of the many doors of his confusing house.
"Yeah, I was looking for you." I had a feeling that Bam was checking me out, but I ignored it.
"Do you want some breakfast? It's just you and me today, I kicked everyone out for today."
"How nice of you and I'll take some breakfast. I'm starved. I haven't eaten since-" I was cut off by my own thoughts, realizing that the last time I'd eaten was when Kyle was still alive.
"Shh, babe, it'll be okay."
"I know…I just….It's hard…" All words had flown out of the window now, I knew that I was having trouble just thinking. Kyle was gone, it still wasn't real to me. Even as I was talking to Bam, thinking about Kyle's death I expected him to just show up at the door. You just can't get over someone you've known for at least the last five years of your life.
"Things will get better, I know that they will." Tears were now winding their way down my cheeks and Bam has to take a hold on me so that I don't fall down.
"I just want this to be a nightmare."
"I know you do, I know you do."
Two Years Earlier
"Bam give me my skateboard back! I'm going to be late yet again to meet Kyle at the skatepark, again!" Despite my pleas Bam just continued to stand in front of me, holding my board hostage.
"Well, just tell him that good Ol' Margera held you back."
"Shut it and give me back my board." I jumped up and attempted to grab the board from him, but sadly hes at least a foot taller than me.
"Not until you tell me how you got that black eye. And that wrist is probably sprained."
"I told you, Mark and I broke up. We just got in a little fight while it happened. I'm fine, now let me go. It wasn't on purpose." Still, my board remained in Bam's strong hands. He's twenty years old going on ten, I swear. He loves skatebaording, goofing off, and just for me, being over-protective.
"It's doesn't look like an accident and we should really get that wrist looked at."
"It was an accident, I told you that about a million times. You're not my mother."
"Well, you're under my roof, so I'm your motehr by default. You're moth trusts me, otherwise she wouldn't have let you stay here."
"My mother would see her internal organs before trusting you, Bam. I'm here out of my own free will, I'm 18."It was true, I was 18, but I didn't come here out of my own free will. I came here because I'd decided to go to the local Junior College and my mother needed to move for work. So I had to stay here and Ape, Bam's mom, had offered a room. I guess it comes in handy to be close friends with a rich and famous family.
"So, you had to get permission, and you know it."
"Shut it. My moth trusts your parents, not you."
"Well, do you see my parents anywhere?" I had a feeling that his parents would be calling, so I started to count down, mostly because I knew that Ape would call at four. She always did, yet Bam never seemed to even remember what a clock was.
"Five…Four…Three…Two…One!" Sure enough the phone began to rang and Bam begrudgingly picked it up.
"Ape! He won't let me leave!" A received a glare that was shot at me from Bam. I heard a mumbled voice in the phone and Bam threw my board at my head.
"Get it Liz, don't stay out after 7. I swear, if you're not, there will be hell to pay."
"Fine!" There was a smug smirk plastered on my face as I ran through the house. On my way out I grabbed the keys to Bam's red Hummer, not bothering to ask. I was to the skate park in only twenty minutes because I drove way too fast, in an attempt to make up for lost time. Though, I must admit, a Hummer does not want to go over about forty. When I finally was out of the Hummer, the doors locked and windows up, Kyle was on his way out.
"I was just about to give up. Thought maybe you and Bam had decided to have sex." As Kyle teased me he ran his hand through his shaggy brown hair. His blue eyes emphasized by the black shirt he was wearing, matched with a black "Made" hoody. If I wasn't trying to get someone else, I probably would put the moves on Kyle.
"Oh, shut up, it's time to skate, not piss me off."
"Fine." There was a vague sense of fear in Kyle's words. It was never my fault when people found themselves afraid of me. They just happened to be afraid of my tone I guess. Or maybe it's the fact that the reason I now have a black eye and sprained wrist is because I started the fight with Mark. No wonder we're not going to ever get back together. I guess I just didn't take his advances very well, since he'd just broken my heart. Now he's got a broken nose, not that it helps. Actually, it does help, I cynically chuckled to myself.
When the clock hits seven I'm still out with Kyle, we've decided to hit the town. By hitting the town we're driving Bam's Hummer into town and getting hamburgers. Well, what did you expect, this is a small town in Pennyslvania.
"Hey, didn't Bam say that you should be back by seven?"
"So, whats he going to do to me? Ground me, or just use my computer to look at porn? Oh wait, he already does that!" I jump in my seat saracstically and clap my hands.
"What the fuck are you doing?" I turn to see a group of Bam's friends standing in front of me.
"What do you want?" The "you" comes out louder than the other words, to emphasise that their prescence isn't needed. I'm not in the mood to hang out with a bunch of men who act like they're five.
"Bam told us to make sure that you got home alright. So here we are." Two of them went on each side and grabbed my arms, pulling me up from my chair.
"Get the fuck off of me." My voice was barely audible and came out as a low hiss.
"No." I began to wiggle and kick, but not scream, I knew too many people in the restraunt. Kyle simply got up and grabbed the bags that our food was in.
"Looks like I'll just follow." He laughed, wrapping his spare arm aroound my legs.
"Let me go!" I screamed as they shoved me back in the Hummer that I had just been driving.
"Here," One of Bam's friends grabbed the keys by the lanyard hanging from my pocket and threw them to Kyle. "You can drive the Hummer, you lucky bastard."
"Thanks." Kyle gleefully caught the keys and climbed into the drivers seat, one of Bam's friends climbed into the passenger seat and sat the food on the floor below him.
"Let me go!"
"Bam said home by seven, next time you better listen."
"Whatever. I should just scream rape next time you touch me." Bam's friends might have been moderately good looking, but this was fucking annoying.
"Good girl, now don't distract the driver."
