I woke up with a start. I thought I heard a noise come from inside the apartment, probably my imagination again. I looked at my bedside clock and once I saw the digits 4:36am I groaned. I had a late night partying with my work buddies Marissa, Danielle and Janelle at the new club Siascostus that had recently opened up a couple of streets away from my place. It wasn't that bad actually. Since it was new it attracted a lot of people, most of them guys wanting a one night stand with as many women as possible. Most of them were ugly and should never have stepped into a place like Siascotus, but there were the few that more than deserved to dance with us. There was one particular guy, Liam, that seemed interested in me and I'd be lying if I said I didn't think he had a great arse, although he did seem to need to go to the toilet a lot. So we enjoyed each other's company on the dance floor for most of the night, until I thought, no body needs to go to the toilet every ten minutes, at least not any that went to a club. So I followed him around, keeping out of sight and it seemed he had two other women he visited every ten minutes as well. I of course, was much more beautiful then the other two. However I was so pissed off that I left my friends without an excuse and came home to sleep it off…well…more like sleep him off.
I was just about to lye my head back down onto my soft pillow that I owned since I was 15 when I heard the noise again. I stopped breathing and tried to guess what made the noise. Giving up, I decided that I had to go check it out, my cat, Jess, was out there somewhere and she didn't like many people…none to be exact. Not even me.
I quickly got out of my bed as quietly as I could straining to hear anymore noises from the originator of the previous noises or Jess. Once I reached the door I opened it just a little to see if anyone was around. Since I didn't see anything I opened my door completely and walked out onto the lounge room. I have a basic lounge room, nothing particularly special. A small television, a couch and an old coffee table. On the coffee table were magazines and books my friends gave to me the other day. I didn't see any dark figure, human or feline, so I crept along the wall towards my kitchen and the front door. As soon as I got to the end of the couch I heard the noise again. I got over the whole scared phase and started getting curious. What was the noise? I have never heard anything in my apartment make that noise and it sort of sounded like a mix between a Knife cutting pumpkin and my Dad when he snored.
Ruling out my Dad cutting pumpkin while being asleep, I peeked around the corner to check out my front door. It was closed with the chain hanging loose, like I left it, but because of the darkness and distance away I couldn't tell if the door was still actually locked.
Starting to get scared again I grabbed a tennis racket that I had hidden behind the couch in case of emergencies. I checked out the front door once again to make sure no one was there and once I saw that it was exactly the same, I tip toed as quickly as I could towards the kitchen. As soon as I reached the kitchen I hid behind the wall and counted to three. On the third number I spun around the wall towards the kitchen doing a loud 'Yargh' while I was at it.
I expected the figure to be tall with broad shoulders holding a knife just about to stab me to death. But, like I usually am, I was wrong. The figure reached no higher then mid calf and although had very sharp weapons, they were shorter then a fingernail, it was Jess. She had gotten into my cupboards and got stuck between the toaster and the frying pan.
"For pitiful's sake cat, can't I leave all the kitchen doors open without you making a mess?" I said with strong feelings of hate for the black and white cat trying to look innocently at me. It wasn't working. I walked over the kitchen tiles and knelt on my knees to grab Jess. I grabbed her and pulled her out. But not without creating a mess with pots, pans and toaster on the floor. Sighing angrily I threw the cat away and closed all the doors except the one Jess had been stuck in. As soon as I saw her try to get back in againI hissed at her, she quickly got the idea and bolted out of the kitchen.
I picked up Jess's mess and put it back where it belonged and made sure the door was closed. Yawning, I looked at the kitchen clock and saw the hazy numbers of 4:50am. Not liking what I saw I groaned and made my way back to my bedroom. As I passed the hallway I stopped and walked backwards two steps. There was something wrong with my door. I didn't know what it was, but I knew something was wrong or different about it. Upon closer inspection I still couldn't figure out what was actually wrong with the door. Admitting defeat I made a mental note to look again in the morning and trudged into my bedroom to fall on my soft bed, which I fell asleep soon afterwards.
