Of Latin America

When I think of Latin America,

I think of words lost in transition,

A scattering of painful verbs

And of knives as adverbs

To stab ones-self,

Or so, which many around me

Think on this side of the Americas.

Their lettered wounds spill poverty

And that is their own accepted fate

To be ignored and throat-less

As they live to die mute and poor

Or so, which many around me

Think on this side of the Americas.

When they pluck their own vocal strings

And have their life's tears written on paper,

It never seems to reach their northern master,

But to be enslaved in a chain of corruption.

Or so, which many around me

Think on this side of the Americas.

Instead the words hit stone,

And the papers are cut

By murdering adjectives and nouns

Which stain their labor red,

The deceitful twins of eloquence

Showing only the one hidden

Of blackest desires to the slaves

And the other of white opportunity to us,

Or so, which many around me

Think on this side of the Americas.

When I think of Latin America

I think of words lost in transition,

A scattering of painful verbs

And of knives as adverbs

To stab ones-self.

Or so, to me, words sadly erased

From that side of the Americas.

Note: Now try reading it again knowing that verbs can mean

actions done to the peoples of Latin America (killing, murdering,

whipping, enslaving, etc...). The adverbs are things that describe the

verbs (e.g. bloody, quickly, savagely, painfully, etc). The nouns are

greedy corporations from (especially from the U.S) and adjectives are

just what describes the nouns (decietful, evil, unfair, corrupt, greedy, etc.)

Thank you!! Enjoy.
