Engage

All in a dark and somber sky where wedding charms made din,
The man-guest best exhaled his chest, the wedding did begin.
He wore a coat of charcoal gray, the color of the rain,
And she of white did bathe in light by way of fairer bane.
The carpet stretched a rosen hue into the wedding-sea,
And up she stepped, nor pained nor wept for wisdom few had she.
As 'cross the rosen carpet tread, the maid of light enkindled
A blazing bright - a fairer white - so with the carpet mingled.
And he for fear did thereto flee in company of nightmares.
They were his kin, nor wont to sin, met they with no compares.
Had there he stayed, a wonderment would swift have smote him down;
His breast of coal could match no dole with light and fail to drown.
So off he flew in swift descent, she close upon his aft;
She resting not nor slows her trot till he yet she might raft.
