It was a summer day and the winds were picking up as a sixteen year-old boy was riding his bike down the road. The boy had short brown hair with blonde highlights; it was pushed down and toward the front and held in place by a certain type of hold gel that he used. He screwed up his bangs but they always fell forward in an arch on his forehead anyway. He was about five foot ten and weighed around one hundred forty pounds. His build was slightly muscular but you couldn't tell unless he lifted his shirt because he always wore baggy clothes. Today he was wearing a white T-shirt with a black cover shirt. The shirt was black all except the picture of a dragon on the back. The dragon was Ice blue and standing at a side view with its large wings spread. The shirt was unbuttoned and flapping behind him as he was going quickly down the street. He hated wearing shorts so his legs were completely covered by baggy blue jeans. He lightly put on his breaks as he was approaching a stop sign. When he saw that no cars were around he peddled hard down the street. He could smell the rain coming and the wind was getting faster. The bike he was riding was red with black stripes on it like tiger stripes. The bike said Thunder Streak in white letters and electric blue outline. It was a twenty-one speed and came up to his hip in height. He had gotten a gel seat to put over the other uncomfortable one. As he pulled up to a brown-sided house with sandstone siding as well, he turned to ride up to the front porch. It was rectangular and cement, and had a black metal railing around it that went down the stairs also. He approached the front screen door that had a storm window in the top but a screen in the bottom. When he reached the door he rang the doorbell. He heard a song by Simple Plan playing and though he wasn't sure which one, he liked the sound of it.
"That's Kayla," he thought to himself, "Always blaring the music." He rung it again just incase she didn't hear it the first time. A girl that stood around five foot four, one hundred twenty-five pounds answered. She had curly black hair with copper highlights that went just below her shoulders, and a set of brown eyes that he often thought he could stare into for hours. In his opinion she was why the word beautiful was invented. She was wearing a pair of pajama pants that had Sponge bob and Patrick all over them and were light green in the background. Her shirt was just a plain light blue tank top. Clearly she just got out of bed, though her hair looked fine. She smiled when she saw him and said
"Hey Kayla" he said smiling back.
"What's up?" she asked, closing her eyes acting tired.
"Looks like it's about to rain" he answered with a glance up to the sky. She looked up at clouds and said, "Well it looks like you are going to get wet." She grinned at him waiting for him to react.
"Oh come on!" he pleaded, overdramatically. She just shrugged and disappeared, leaving him standing there for a moment. The music quit and she reappeared around the corner. He wasn't paying attention but heard her unlock the screen door. He sighed and turned around, opened the door and walked in. She walked up to him and put her arms around his neck. He quirked an eyebrow and said, "What are you doing" hoping for a certain answer all the while knowing what she was going to say. She looked straight into his eyes and smiled. He felt butterflies start to flutter in his stomach and smiled back. She took her arms down and jumped on her couch, grabbing the T.V. remote and flicking it on. He walked over to where she was sitting and sat himself on the floor next to her. She started to flip through the channels, which would never end. Kayla was never satisfied with one show.
She just made a sighing noise to which Jeremy just shook his head and rested his back against the couch. Her hand was laid out freely on the cushion of the couch and he noticed it. Taking a huge chance his slid his hand in under it. She flinched for a second, but then relaxed and interlocked their fingers. They sat there just watching the television for a little while and then Jeremy suggested, "Hey lets go and do something."
"Like what?" Kayla asked.
"I don't know," he answered, "go ride our bikes around or something. Maybe take a walk?" She sat there wondering for a minute then said, "Ok, sure. Just let me go and get ready." She jumped up and ran around the corner before he could say anything else.
"Come on Kayla" he thought to himself while he was waiting. Just as he checked his watch, taking note that she had been gone at least ten minutes, she came back around the corner. Kayla was wearing tight hip-hugger jeans, and a T-shirt that was brown and said Rebel on it and had a number 01 in the background. She also had her hair pulled back now in a ponytail.
"Ride or walk?" Jeremy asked.
"Let's walk for now" she said to him as she headed toward the door. He followed her and walked out the side door. They started off on the walk down the street. Jeremy decided he was going to show off a bit, just for fun and jumped up a tree on the way. He slid down the trunk onto his back and Kayla started laughing at him. He felt his face get a little hot from blushing and jumped up.
"Nice one" she said with a smirk.
"Smart-ass" he said and gently grabbed her hand again. She just grinned a little more and started swinging their arms. He stopped her and asked,
"Well, where do you want to go?"
"Just follow me," she told him.
"No problem" he said with a grin. Ignoring the grin she just started going. She led him through the area to the local ballpark and over to a bridge that went above a rather wide creek that was in town. The two walked onto the huge rocks under the cementbridge. Jeremy squatted and looked into the water and felt Kayla's eyes on him. He looked over at her and stared straight into her eyes. They just sat there looking at each other, and without realizing it, moved closer and closer.
"Kayla," Jeremy whispered softly.
"Shhh," she whispered back and then pressed her lips softly against his. When they stopped kissing Jeremy just stared into her eyes.
"I didn't see that coming" he whispered and smiled at her. They decided to find a nice spot of grass out in the sun and sit down. He did so with his arms resting on his knees at about elbow level. Kayla walked over to him and sat down in between his legs, her back to him. She turned her head and kissed him again. Then she smiled and leaned her weight against him. He just wrapped his arms around her snugly and they just sat there in each other's company for a good hour, not saying a word to each other, just enjoying the fact that they were together. With the occasional kiss here and there they just sat.
"We better be getting back," Jeremy suggested quietly and regrettably.
Kayla turned and looked at him with her bottom lip extended like she always did when she was faking sad or just over exaggerating it.
"Suck in that lip," Jeremy said with a half smile, "You know we have to."
"Yeah but I don't want to" she said and snuggled in close to him. She put her hand on his chest and felt him breath.
"Ok" she said now whispering again. He loved it when she talked like that or in her southern accent. Her originating from Texas, she could do it very well. She got up and walked toward her bike and Jeremy just sat there for a minute just enjoying the "view" as he affectionately though of it. She turned around and said
"Will you quit staring at me you butt head?" Realizing that he had broken his number one rule in checking a girl out, never get caught, he jumped up and ran over to her.
"What do you mean, I wasn't" Jeremy started but was cut off quickly.
"Shut-up, I know you were looking. You always do, but that doesn't mean I'm complaining" she said with a seductive grin. She ran her tongue across her top teeth like she always did when she was flirting and then turned to walk away. Jeremy followed, clasping her hand again. She hugged him for a time, and then slid her arms so that only her hands were interlocking around his neck. They stared into each other's eyes for a little then Kayla broke away and walked over to her door. He followed and she said,
"Well, I guess I'll see you later?" with a smile.
"Yeah," Jeremy said then grinned, "Later." Then he walked away. She called his name and he walked back over ending the day with a very soft and playful kiss. He looked at Kayla's house for a little.
"Wish this would happen more often" he said out loud as if talking to someone. Then he shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
