Falling...falling. He kept falling. Nowhere to go but down...or was it down? Nothing to hold on to. Blackness everywhere. He looked up...up? Maybe it was down. He looked and saw a mountain. A mountain? What was a mountain doing there? Lightning flashed around the mountain. Shouts were heard. "He's gone! Get...," and then the voices and the mountain were gone. But the lightning kept flashing. He looked back to the direction where he was going. Lightning flashes in front of him. Keeps falling. And then he hit something...hard...the lightning flashed one more time, this time shocking him. Blackness closed around him, but he wasn't falling anymore.
Zane Julius woke up to hear the doorbell ring. "Just a minute!" The Greek struggled to get his clothes on and rushed to the door. He opened the door to see a man dressed in a suit and carrying a briefcase.
"You are Zane Julius?" The newcomer asked.
"Yes." The man standing before Julius was about 6 foot tall, and looked very familiar, but Julius could not place him.
"Mr. Julius, my name is Aaron Mason. I am a reporter for the New York Tribune. I would like to talk to you about 10 years ago and the years before."
"Mr. Mason, I have already talked to the papers after I learned English."
"We know you were found in Central Park and you could only speak Greek and you were wearing Greek clothes, but we want to try to find out about the years before that."
"I have said I had amnesia. I do not remember."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. If you do not get off my property, I will call the police."
"Well, since you can't remember, maybe I can fill you in."
"I think I know what happened to you. Maybe we should discuss this in Central Park. I have some people you might want to meet."
"I would like to bring a witness."
"Suit yourself, but they will probably not believe what I say. Be there tomorrow at 5:00 p.m."
Julius arrived at Central Park with his close friend, Allen Hanby. The two walked around the park looking for Aaron Mason.
"Do you have any idea about what this guy wants to tell you?" Hanby asked.
Julius glanced at his companion, "Just something about my past. I don't know other than that." Allen Hanby was a police officer for the NYPD. Hanby worked undercover in the Italian Mafia, and outsmarted several crime bosses, which earned him the nickname, "Godfather." He, also, was a godparent to several children.
"Zane Julius!" a voice shouted.
Julius turned around, "Ah, Mr. Mason." The two shook hands as Julius gestured to Hanby. "This is my friend, Allen Hanby. He works with the New York police."
Hanby grasped Mason's hand. "Pleased to meet you."
"Mr. Julius, Mr. Hanby, this is Marc Herley. He is the CEO of Hermes Enterprises, Inc."
After introductions were finished, the group moved down the path.
"So, what do you know about my past?" Julius asked to Mason, who was standing to the right of Julius.
"You have heard the stories of Greek mythology, correct?"
"Yes. I believe we have all heard the stories...Zeus, Hera, Hercules, Ares, Pegasus, etc. Why?"
"You may find this hard to believe, but I am Ares."
"I am, I will show you." Mason pointed to a rock a few feet away. "See, that rock? Watch." Mason extended his hand and a blue packet of energy shot from his hand and hit and vaporized the rock.
Hanby's look of shock turned into suspicion. "It's a trick. How'd you do it?"
"Marc, show him."
Herley extended his hand and did the same thing to another rock.
"What...? How...?" Julius turned to Mason. "You are Ares, the God of War." Then he turned to Herley. "And you are...?"
"Hermes, the messenger of the gods."
"So, how does this pertain to me?"
"You are...Zeus, the king of the gods."
"Me...Zeus? It can't be, I can't do that."
"You can, but you forgot how."
Zeus looked at his hands and stared. Ares continued, "Several thousand years ago, you disappeared. We tried to find you but we could not. The people started to forget us, and then all that was left was a story, a myth to everyone. The Council went into hiding. We tried to find Hades and Poseidon, but they were in hiding also. You traveled through time. We don't know why you lost your memory. But, the good news is, Hermes built a device to return your memory." Ares gestured to Hermes. "Hermes?"
"With your permission?" Hermes asked.
Zeus looked to Hanby. Hanby shrugged.
"Fine." Hermes put the device behind Zeus's ears and Zeus slumped to the ground. Blackness again.
Zeus woke up strapped to a table. He could hear voices. "...found... Should...kill him? Get..."
'Since I'm Zeus, I can get out of these straps,' he thought. 'Concentrate, concentrate.' He closed his eyes and concentrated on the straps. Suddenly, the straps snapped off and he was free. He looked around and saw Hanby. He whispered to Hanby. "I'll get us out of here."
Zeus concentrated on moving to Central Park with Hanby. All of the sudden, they were standing in Central Park.
"Zane, or should I call you Zeus?"
"I don't know. I just don't know."
Suddenly, Zeus was hit in the back of the head with something hard. He fell to the ground, but was uninjured. Zeus looked back and saw Ares. Zeus extended his hand and a green energy bolt came out and hit Ares. Ares flew back several yards and slammed into a tree, knocking it over.
"Zeus, you will pay for this. This is war. But, you have a mortal as an ally. I have a god." Then Ares disappeared. The game was about to begin....
