Darkness always got her nervous
She'd start whispering to keep me awake with her
The nights would come, but she'd never want to sleep
She was afraid of the darkness coming for her.
She'd always leave at least one light on
Shining bright so she could read, she said
Her eyes lowered, she seemed so tired
But she'd do anything to stay awake.

And she said
Keep me talking
Keep me smiling
Keep me laughing tonight
Don't let me sleep
Keep my eyes open
Keep my heart feeling
I don't want to sleep tonight
Don't let me close my eyes.

The rain would fall outside her window
And she'd try to count the drops
She'd start from one about a hundred times
But nothing could ever make her stop.

And she said
Keep me talking
Keep me smiling
Keep me laughing tonight
Don't let me sleep
Keep my eyes open
Keep my heart feeling
I don't want to sleep tonight
Don't let me close my eyes.
