Spring Night

Sitting in the rain

Watching the heavens leak down

She smiles and waits

For the familiar sound

The roaring truck

On its lonely way home

Rays of light shine from it

Encompassing it like a dome

She stands and stares

Not really believing

And yet still somehow knowing

He wouldn't soon be leaving

He pulls into the driveway

His headlights ablaze

And she runs into his arms

In the cold and rainy haze

A loving embrace

And a kiss on the head

Are what he brought back for her

As some kind words are said

They walk back to the porch

And no longer made a sound

They're now sitting in the rain

Watching the heavens leak down
