(Give me a reason to believe that you're gone
I see your shadow so I know they're all wrong ..)
The scratch of the pen was the only sound in the small flat. At the desk, back bent, hand scribbling as fast as the thoughts came, a young girl sat, pouring her heart out on the yellowing pages. She was no beauty, lifeless blue-black hair hanging in drying tendrils down her back, pale skin, small bags appearing under her wide brown eyes. A black tank clung to her abundant curve's, a pair of loose cotton sweats, beaded and faded moccasin's, a cup of coffee in her hand. Dull. Angst. Lonely. These feelings seemed to flow form her tired form. She sets down the pen, straightening her back, rubbing weary eyes. She stands up, turns, looks in the full length mirror propped up in the hallway. Monster. Whore.. the accusations are flung at her like dart at a board. Suddenly dizzy she blindly reaches out for the support of her desk. Breathing heavily she sits back down, eyes close. Random thoughts flash into her mind.. why am i here? Why do i even try? Why do i go on? She knows the answer... for him.
(Moonlight on the soft brown earth
It leads me to where you lay
They took you away from me but now I'm taking you home ..)
Waking. The cobwebs of her dreams slowly creep away. Time to face today.. while wishing for yesterday. She stands, pushes play on the CD player, switch to number five. "Long lost words whispered slowly to me.. while all this time Ive been so hollow inside.." Make the world go away. plopping down on the couch, favorite book in her hands, tugging at the messy braid, the smoke of incense swirling around her head. Her eyes dance here and there across the worn pages, knowing the words by heart as the pounding music echos threw out the rooms. "Has my world become a fantasy land? With phantoms and forbidden angels keeping me company, and lost mages at my beckon.. Ive lost reality. My own dreams are destroying me.." Paragraph after paragraph, the familiar plot etched once more in her heart, last page, book finished, reaching for another one. Cd's change, time for Phantom. The overture starts up, the powerful notes sending shivers threw her body.
"There.." she whispers.. " That is where my heart is..my mind.. my soul.."
Back to the days of divas and prima donnas, back to The La Opera Popular. Unbidden the music wells from her soul, and her silent comes forth. She remembered form an ancient time long ago, she remembered him, her teacher, her angel.. Daniel. Ever since she had been a child, the story of the phantom of the opera played constantly in her mind.. he became her Erik. Daniel. The organ begins the haunting crescendo, her back arches, feet poised in perfect positions, she dances, the Diva is back. Arms entwine over her head, as shes possessed by the spell that binds her heart.. the trance of love. Spinning on pointed toes, tears in a two crystal streams down her care worn face. Daniel. He died for her.. to protect her. YOU KILLED HIM. The scream stops her mid-step, and she crumbles to the floor. Murderer. Rocking back and forth, trying to make the memories go away. "Why cant the past just die?!" Daniel.. sobs turn to whimpers, and she lays her head on her knees, eyes close.. time to dream again.
(I will stay forever here with you
My love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on ..)
Night has fallen, the air is cold, damp, fog roles in and out from betwixt the stone gravestones. Her footsteps echo in the silent graveyard, her haunted eyes starring into another time. Rows after rows of stone pillars, pitiful remembrance of the dead. Clutching a single lilly in her hand, she throws back the black hood of her coat, readjusts the flowing ebony skirt, and steps threw the open gate before her, into the empty tomb before her.. shes stepped back into time. She gasps as the biting air invades her lungs, the bitter sweet smell of decaying roses and burnt out candles attack her sense's. Fumbling int he dark she lights three stubs of the scattered candles, and turns to survey the vast tomb. The candle light danced here and there on the dirty marble, casting eary shadows on the tattered tapestries, on the wilted Lilly's, dried roses. The large coffin centered in the middle was what she turned to next.. Daniel. The gleaming stones were polished and well kept, the jewels decorating the sides and letters shone and sparkled, the silver letters still legible even now.
"Voici se trouver Daniel Artimiess Letello, fils aimé et frère. Pouvez vous vous reposer dans la paix. 1805-1820."
Daniel... her Letello.. a single tear fell on the fresh Lilly as she layed it on the smooth coffin. Caressing the rounded corners, she let her gaze slip over to the second mound in the tomb. Another coffin, similar to his. This one smaller, carved from stone. Swirling silver letters lined the sides and top. The language of her native people.. her hand slid up, fingering the edges of the gold plate, which in plain script pronounced the body in which this coffin held.
"Here lies Christina Crying Wind, beloved mother, wife, and daughter. Your in our dreams.1810-1855 RIP." A small oval picture in black and white, was encased in a glass box, set within the stone. she stared at the familiar face, black mane of hair, huge brown eyes...
A sad smile tugged at the morbid face, and she gently blew out the candles, turning and walking back into the chilly night. Back at the flat she crawls into bed, images of her love in her mind..sighing Christina lets dreams engulf her once more..
(Some say I'm crazy for my love, Oh my love
But no bonds can hold me from your side, Oh my love )
They don't know you can't leave me
They don't hear you singing to me ..)
When love is true if never dies..
(And I can't love you, anymore than I do ..)
The characters portrayed in this story are indeed very real. The immortality is but a feeling i have when i think about the past, and the pain it holds. I can never let go of him, my soul and heart will always be his. The love that binds me to my precious Daniel will never fade, and keeps my body alive though everything else that i am is dead. R.I.P my darling.. ill see you in heaven..
