Name of Monologue: Life's a Funny Little Thing
Age range: 14-20
Running Time: about 5 minutes or so
Brittany/Colton: Life's a funny little thing. Really. What is it? It isn't something that you can hold like a crayon or a shoe, and it isn't something you can really feel like love or happiness. What is it?
The funniest thing about it is that it's not really even there. I mean it is, but it isn't. Life and death are really just boundaries for our mind so that we can begin to comprehend it, even a teensy little bit, aren't they?
Don't get me wrong. Life's a wonderful thing. I don't mean that at all. But then we get back to the question, what is it?
I know it's a heart beating and a pair of lungs breathing, and from a theological view point, it's a spirit inside a body, but I'm still lost.
I'd guess they'd classify it as a noun. It's an idea, afterall. But it's more than an idea. It's a thing…but a thing is tangible, and life isn't. Oh! I'm so confused!
I guess when all is said and done, you could say that it's that feeling just underneath your jawbones when you eat under-ripe blackberries. The one that feels like your head is about to shrink. Plus that feeling that you get when someone you love smiles at you.
Have you ever pondered what it'd feel like to not exist? But then you realize that if you didn't exist, you wouldn't even know you didn't exist, because you wouldn't even know anything. I can't fathom it! I've tried, but…Oh man, is meta-physics confusing!
