I woke up to the sound of a ringing phone. Argh. Can't I just sleep for once? Was everyone out to deprive me of things – of the things I needed the most?

The clock's letters shone 2:39. Damnit. I was hoping to not wake up 'til morning. That way Mom couldn't yell at me for not doing the chores until the next night.

I let the phone ring. God, the sound of it is so annoying. How come I've never noticed that before? It's like a lost child wailing for his mommy. "RAHHNNNGG, RAHHNNNGG, RAHHNNNGG!" Calm down, your mom will come, you'll be alright. Stop screaming. Take a deep breath, maybe a chill pill or two. What, you can't swallow pills? Whatever. Just shut up!

The machine answered the call. "Hello, you've reached the Frazier's," it announced. "We are not able to take your call. Please leave a message, and we'll be sure to call you back. Thank you, bye bye."

"Hi, Larissa, it's me –" Who's "me"? I don't know, I don't care. How did this mystery girl expect me to call her back if I didn't know who she was?

"I just wanted to see how you're holding up…this has gotta be really hard on you – I mean it's really hard on me, and we weren't nearly as close. Please, please call me back. We'll go to the movies or something, 'kay? Well…bye."

I knew this girl from somewhere. I think…oh yes, that's right, a past life. This definitely isn't normal. Why were so many things from my past life haunting me?

I sighed, thinking about the way my head – my life – had become. I had a messy room and messy mind. I'd been cutting out friends and cutting myself.

It was all one big bloody mess.
