Kayla sat in class with a few of her friends and giggled madly at their jokes. The teacher had given them free time to do there homework but of course homework wasn't what they were talking about. Kayla's friends Samantha was talking about a boy in her class that had been giving his teacher a hard time earlier that day. But of course the scene he had made was hilarious to them.
The small group of friends didn't have the best grades in that class but it didn't matter to them. They were teenagers and they wanted to have fun and that was all. It was still a passing grade so they didn't have to worry just yet.
Soon Kayla started to lose interest at the conversation at hand. She stared out the window emotionlessly and thought about how boring things were getting now that it was near the halfway point of the school year. She knew that soon she would have to find something to do before she died of boredom. Like a hobby or interest of some sort.
Before anyone realized it, the bell had rung and everyone got up and headed to their next class.
Kayla entered her next class and sat down in her seat next to one of her close friends, Sarah. Right away Sarah started to talk about how her boyfriend and she had the most romantic and fun evening ever. Kayla had gotten used to Sarah's endless talks about how much she loved her boyfriend and such so this did not affect her mood much. Sometimes hearing Sarah talk about her boyfriend made her feel lonely and unwanted but she usually subdued the emotions deep within herself.
"So, yeah, Tyler and I are going to the movies this Friday and he's bringing a friend and I was wondering if you would like to come too. So what do you say?" Sarah said to Kayla after what seemed to be an endless lecture that Kayla titled for Sarah: 'Mindless dribble a.k.a. Sarah and Tyler's dates'.
Kayla looked over at Sarah, with a confused yet surprised look upon her fair-skinned face. "Are you asking me to go on a double-date with Tyler, his friend, and you?"
Sarah giggled at the look on Kayla's face. "Well, I guess you could put it that way. But, yeah, I guess that is what I'm doing."
Kayla hesitated. She had never been out on a real double-date before. This seemed very odd especially considering the fact that the invitation was coming from Sarah. "Well…I don't know…"
"Oh, come on! Please!" Sarah begged as she pouted slightly.
Kayla was still hesitating. "Okay, I guess it wouldn't do much harm. After all: you are going to be there."
"Hurray!!" Sarah exclaimed and hugged Kayla. "Thank you so much! This is going to be so much fun!"
Kayla was grateful that Sarah's celebration was cut short by the bell that signaled that class was to start.
That Friday, Sarah and Kayla went to the movie theatre and waited for Tyler and his friend to arrive. Sarah was rather irate because Tyler and his friend were late but when she saw Tyler's car park in the parking lot all of her anger suddenly disappeared. She scampered over to Tyler and threw her arms around him once he had gotten out of the car. Tyler returned the hug as he shut the driver's side door. That's when his friend got out of the car. After locking the car, the three walked back over to where Kayla was standing.
"Tyler, this is my friend: Kayla. Kayla, this is Tyler." Sarah said with an enormous smile on her face as she walked up arm-in-arm with Tyler.
"Hello." Tyler and Kayla said to one another.
"Tyler, what's your friend's name again?" Sarah asked as she glanced over at his friend who hadn't said a word as of yet.
"Oh, this is David. David, this is my girlfriend Sarah, and her friend Kayla." Tyler said as he turned to face David.
"Hello, Sarah. Hello, Kayla. It's very nice to meet the two of you." David said with a smile.
Kayla nodded in reply. Was this the guy she was supposed to go out with?
"Okay, then let's go inside to watch the movie!" Sarah's voice seemed to echo as the image faded and went black...
Kayla opened her eyes and awoke from her dream of what used to be before the horrible nightmare she was now living even began.
