Living in a Nightmare: Chapter 1

By: lilallaboutme

nightmare - frightening dream or experience

I would say this describes my life. Ever since I can remember, I've had bad nightmares. When I say nightmares, I mean excruciating, agonizing nightmares. Most days I'm afraid to fall asleep. My nightamres are so bad that the mental hospital is studying me. I've seen about every specialist that there is to see. They still don't know what's wrong with me, and neither do I.

I live in the orphanage. It's pretty nice here, but I wish my life was normal again.

My dad walked out on us when I was a baby. My mom never did tell me why. My mom and brother died in a car accident when I was 7. I was in the car, yet somehow I survived. Nothing majorly hurt. I left the hospital a few days later. This was when they realized something was wrong with me. One visit to the shrink and it was revealed that I had very bad nightmares for no apparent reason.

mystery - unexplained or unknown thing, obscurity or secrecy

Little did I know, this is what I would soon call my life.

Chapter 1

It started out as ordinary. A picnic on the beach. Swimming, sand, and fun. Then, just as soon as it began, the fun was over. It was time to go home. So, the girl, boy, and lady climbed into the car. They turned up the radio and they were headed off. Only I knew they wouldn't make it. I'd had this dream before. Many times before. Then I knew who the people were.

The little girl, me, looked out the window while her mother and brother played I spy. Then she saw it, the semi that would take her family's life away. The semi got closer and closer. Mom veered out to pass the car ahead of us.

"Mommy, look out!" I screamed with horror.

I bolted awake with a scream. I didn't finish the dream. But I knew what had happened. I wiped the sweat off of my forehead, and layed back down. I looked at the clock. It read 3:24 A.M. That was all the sleep I would get that night. I couldn't wait for morning to come. New sunshine and a new day.
