Jessie slowly sat up, yawning. For once she had slept well. She got up and went threw her morning routine: showering, brushing her teeth, fixing her hair, and getting dressed. She was gathering her things to leave when she decided there was something she needed to do.
"I've put this off long enough," she sighed.
She headed into her bedroom and opened the drawer of her nightstand. She gently pulled a photograph out of it. She looked at it and a smile crossed her face. It was a picture of a tall, handsome man holding a beautiful little girl and grinning happily. With a sad smile she slipped the picture into the empty picture frame and set it down on the nightstand.
She sighed and grabbed the tiny volume her professor had given her, slipped it into her purse, and walked out of her apartment, a smile on her lips.
