Once upon a time
I took it upon myself to
Sit down
Kitchen table
On my throne
Quill in hand
Poised on parchment
And write the best poem
In the world.

Suddenly
The smell of fear
Touched my nostrils.

I
Sold my soul bare/Wept tears of ice/Fell to despair/Burned the rice.

And so

After this burst of inspiration
I took it upon myself to
Sit down
Kitchen table
On my throne
Quill in hand
Poised on parchment
And write the best poem
In the world.

Then
With a mighty shatter
The crystal chalice

Descended softly and
Broke my heart/Ripped my core/Tore me apart/Smashed on the floor.

And so

After this burst of inspiration
I took it upon myself to
Sit down
Kitchen table
On my throne
Quill in hand
Poised on parchment
And write the best poem
In the world.

And then
An eerie coldness
Filled my mind.

It
Washed over my head/Descended like silk/Smarted and bled/Was just spilled milk.

And so

After this burst of inspiration
I took it upon myself to
Sit down
Kitchen table
On my throne
Quill in hand
Poised on parchment
And write the best poem
In the world.

Then without warning
The table before me
Shimmered in blackness

It was
Drowned in its tears/Drowned at hell's brink/Drowned in its fears/Drowned in ink.

And so

After this burst of inspiration
I took it upon myself to
Sit down
Kitchen table
On my throne
Quill in hand
Poised on parchment
And write the best poem
In the world.

Finally
A genial line
And the front door slammed shut.

The shit
Wasted my soul/Made life a sham/Froze my blood cold/Hit the fan.
