Predator and Prey
We call ourselves carnivores
It is not our bodies that define us as such
But everyone believes a much
We are bound by our simple mores
It is not our large fangs or our muscular features
It is not our hunger or our disconnection from other creatures
It is the joy we find in hunting our prey
We move through the tall grass
Not knowing we make ourselves an impasse
We observe the movements of our victim
We feel superior because of the way we blend in the field
And because of the way we make others yield
Our beliefs are what make us hate our prey
It's because we are different
We believe ours is the better way
We choose our game like we choose our weapons
Our misconceptions give us the excuse
We don't realize that our minds are in misuse
We are simply that blind
Sometimes we pounce on the ones we hate
Sometimes we do it to those we admire
It's not all about our appetite or desire
It doesn't matter if we already ate
What we enjoy is the hunt itself
We love the feeling of leaping through the air
We love the feeling of landing on a helpless fair
We love the screams of terror and despair
It makes us feel better about ourselves
We dig our nails in our prey
Tarring off the flesh that we desire
We destroy what we hate
And we doom what we like
It is in our nature to take the bite
I was a predator long ago
I have long since banished the hunt
Now I am
And will always remain
