Chapter 1: Vague Sensations
The silvery glow of the moon's radiance in the middle of the night filled the streets. It made its way through every empty crevice on each wall in its path. But someone was oblivious to its conquering power. Someone whose mind was subjected under the spell of another force, which was even more powerful.
"So, here you are again darling," the man in the dark hood said.
His presence caused twelve-year-old Kernos to shiver. The appearance of a peculiar man in the confines of his bedroom truly starled him. Kernos did not know what the stranger needed from him, and he was sure that he would not like it if he would soon find out.
"There was a wound you made in the heart of someone else," continued the mysterious man.
"Who are you and what are you talking about?" asked Kernos, whose fear was evident in his voice.
"Do not speak as if you are unaware, little boy," answered the unfamiliar guest.
"I don't understand a thing you're saying," muttered Kernos defensively.
"How dare you put me into this kind of unfathomable suffering! I shall make you perish if given the slightest chance! From now on, I shall be the haunting voice you will hear when there is no sound, the frightening illusions of melancholy when there is nothing to behold, the deathly chill against your skin, and the nightmares that you will encounter in your sleep! I shall torture you as you did to me, making you taste a worse type of your own medicine. Remember, Kernos, no crime goes without punishment. You committed a sin so heinous that no amount of your pleading may win my forgivess. May the future have mercy on your spirit's fate!" replied the unwelcome visitor.
He approached Kernos swiftly. The stranger raised a hand, from which a little amount of fire emerged. The flames flung themselves against Kernos' face. The younger boy froze for the impact, but soon discovered that the red-orange warmth was bearable. But then, he felt that they left a mark on his right cheek. Kernos traced a finger against his cheek, and it seemed to him that the emblem created on it resembled the shape of an eye.
Kernos opened his mouth to have a word, yet, the stranger vanished from sight. Just then, Kernos observed that his surroundings faded into total darkness. His heart started to beat faster, and it continued to do so when he felt the ground spinning.
"From now on, I shall be the haunting voice you will hear when there is no sound, the frightening illusions of melancholy when there is nothing to behold, the deathly chill against your skin, and the nightmares that you will encounter in your sleep!" Kernos heard the same words over and over as the floor endlessly whirled. He could not do anything about what was occurring, thus he just shouted.
What happened next was a miracle. Kernos found himself lying in his bed. He glanced at his clock, which read 2:00 a.m. It became clear that he had just been dreaming.
"So much for going to bed early," he thought.
He rose, deciding to prepare himself a glass of milk in order to calm himself down and help him resume his slumber. However, as he passed by the mirror, he noticed a weird blotch on his face. He went closer to his reflection to examine it. And then, it dawned on him that what took place earlier was not a dream after all.
See what I can come up with when I am being attacked by writer's block? I admit that it is not very good. But I will revise and update this soon, depending on the reviews I will get, if any. Tell me what you think because I shall really appreciate your comments.
