"When once you have tasted flight,
you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been
and there you will always long to return."
- Leonardo da Vinci
Prologue
The first cold breath of our night air circulated from the lungs through the rest of the jolting body we had created. It writhed upon the ground, shimmering with wetness under our moon's harsh glow. Puffs of white drifted from the mouth we had crafted in rhythmic bursts as life started to take hold. The body tested its arms as it moved into a sitting position. Neck muscles groaned as the head rotated, stretching, but perhaps also looking for something. The eyes were closed. Then, as the head was tilted towards our heavens; the eyes opened. The first thing the eyes saw were our stars dancing across our night sky.
