Lanterns on the Shore
Unbroken by starlight black skies star us down
We stand with lanterns on the banks of the ocean
The last beacon as you leave the town
Unnoticed our eyes are innocent, without emotion
In featureless nightgowns we watch the passing ships
That carry the ambitious, the curious and the hopeful away
We hear the songs that will never pass our lips
Your tales of freedom are fading as you head for day
You can't take us with you we were born where night is king
We can't live on the opposite shore in a city of light
We are fearless because we have already lost everything
So standing on the sands we hold your ship in sight
Look back, just once and see the children's beams
We light the passage for your ship of dreams
