Opelia Season

Ophelia Season

The Beginning

As I looked up into the moonlit sky I wondered what had become of me. I wondered why my luck was bad. Why I was born under a full moon? Nothing could tell me the answers to my distant questions for I am an orphan. My parents were killed my a sorcerer who's name is Glyphis. I am alone… I have nothing… I am nothing. I strive for food each day! I live alone with Richaff my only and hardy horse given to me by my mother as a gift…

My name is Ophelia 'twas the name of my mother. I am fourteen seasons old. My life is persistent. All of my abilities run dry like a desert without rain. I am said to have powers. Powers that no other Human has in Cartia. My powers are said to live in my soul not my hand. I am cursed with bad luck and for this I will always hate Killent…

Travel I day and night never to find shelter. Unicorns come to me and guide me along my path to equality. I will not ever have faith. My homes are lost. Everything except Richaff. Tonight I travel Linkan. A place where I am suppose to work. My only guide is my ancestors…

…AS I lie here writing this I think of what I shall do next. I have been forced to be boy these past moons and I don't even know who I am now. If I am caught I will be brought before Glyphis and killed like my mother and father. My hatred for Glyphis grows as I think of how long it has been since I seen the soft eyes of my mother. The uneven beard of my father. Nan and my toys… 11 seasons it has been. I must go now before dawn so I can go to the merchant before he sees that I'm not there. I will hope and pray with my heart that I will once again have a family. A life in which I may be proud of. For now I must hurry to the market… Ophelia-

The merchant was a large man and was about 60 seasons old. He was a rich man and never gave to the poor. He only had servant boys who would come from as far as Zasquin to make four Clinks a day for their families. Ophelia was one of them. Her name was known a Pherminee to all the boys and the merchant. The merchant worked his boys very hard and only gave them a rest only when he fancied. You may want to know why Ophelia did this work of nothing…

I did this labor for what I knew would make me the least money. I am doing this because I am conservative. I enjoy being helpful, kind, generous, and thoughtful. But from what I have learned, the Merchant was the worst man to work for. I regret feeling this way for it is not my nature but I must show how I feel honestly. I work harder than all the other boys for I am not lazy. I am a strong girl… with no hope. Once again memories of my parents and Nan all come back to me now. I remember sitting in my room with my mother writing on a slate with chalk. Father coming in with his old pipe and saying that I was coming along well like a girl my age should be. I remember Nan's lap where I would nap in the sun. I remember Nan the most. Her dress always smelling like cloves and her hands warm and gentle. My vision subsides…

I tolerate hunger and thirst. I tolerate everything that is thrust in my path. I return from the market to find Richaff eating grass where I left him. I saddle him up and canter down the hill to leave Linkan. I am a girl now. I am endangered of being robbed for I do not have the same power I had as a boy. I will be strong Ophelia…

She traveled for days without food or water. She was once again the lost girl. Soon the snow began to fall for it was winter. It blanketed the earth in glistening white petticoats of frost. For Ophelia, it was a blanket of hope for she was starting to reach her goal. She was near the palace of Glyphis. She wanted to kill Glyphis for all he had done to her. Tearing her parents away from her at the age of three. She wanted revenge but she could do nothing. After all she was an orphan. No love, no home, no place to be to live. Yet she still moved on walking against the current to her future…

I traveled today past Groferhapen and walk Richaff in the snow for he was tired. I was tired from my journey so we set up a small camp under an oak tree for the night. I was starving and I found some berries of the sweetest taste. I decided to save some and put the in my pouch around my neck. I fell asleep that night and woke with a start the next morning. There was a parade on the road! I ran up to the side of the of the road and there was Glyphis acting all proud and glorifying. I knew I was the only one in that crowd that knew what Glyphis had done…. Ophelia

She walked Richaff to a small brook for a drink to soothe his aching limbs. They had been travelling for 89 moons now and were weak from fatigue. It was then when her powers came bubbling out of her. Every inch of her body became different. She wondered what was happening to her but soon realized what it was. Her powers were taking over her. But what were her powers? What could she do? How had she all of the sudden gotten them? If she was the only one in Cartia who could do this what could she do? She decided to try something with her eyes. She stared at a little ant and said in her mind speak to me. And the ant just started speaking to her. "What are you doing to me? Let me go!" The ant could speak to her without sound also. That was a great power but Ophelia knew that the sorceress Yvonne could do the same thing she wasn't the only one that could do it…

As I thought of what to do next I wondered what other powers I had. But how had I gotten them? My life was always full of questions that nobody could answer. Then I realized why I had gotten my powers. My parents were both killed on Killent, and today was Killent. The day in each year that evil spirits come from the ground and coil around so that you become evil. If you are under a certain tree on Killent you will die. What is my other power though? And how will I get it?

As she lay her head down that night in the forest her second power came to her. It was the power to walk on air. When she awoke in the morning she was lying in mid air in the middle on the road! Once again she thought she thought she had hope but it died as soon as she thought of how far it was to get to Glyphis's castle. But then again she was in mid air in the middle of the road. How does she get down? She tried a number of things and then finally said, "Down!" and she landed gently on the dirt road…

Now I must go. Get away, far away from this road for I am trying to find Glyphis's hidden castle in the hills of Cabinha. I shall find him kill him and leave him. It is not like me at all for I am kind and gentile. But death must be repaid. Thus ends my tale… Ophelia Season
