Oh, sinisterly scalèd sleeping snake-
Great wyrm who guards a greater wealth of gold-
Fair, fearsome foe to fight when wyrm's awake-
Of lore and legend, lord; true tales unfold.
Sun shines on scintillating shield-like scales-
An amber armor, and a swordsman's test.
Wide wings wait folded, fearsome serpent sails,
And enigmatic eyes eternal, rest.
Beneath the bright behemoth beryls lie,
Red rubies roll, sky-blue sapphires sleep,
Enchanted emeralds, gems, gold, heaped high:
Ten-thousand treasures, all the dragon's keep.
The travelers that try to take these jewels
Meet dragon's fire- merely more dead fools.
