Stealing by Carol Ann Duffy (my response poem)

"You don't understand a word I'm saying, do you?"

I did not understand you.

But your words are your actions.

We laugh at first,

Once we look again

We see your life. Your world.

Trying to fight.

Trying to change.

'Life's tough',

Not only for you, mate, but all of us,

Most are 'sick of the world', at some point.

Don't forget.

You are a child at heart,

Wanting your childhood back.

Wishing to be dead.

This is real.

This is what's said.

I do not know you.

I wish I did.

Now, what do you think? Someone who understands.
