She needed the air, cool on her skin, but gentle to take her away from her thoughts.
The Hold was starting to get to Adie, it seemed all she did was either walk in a daze or get into a fight with the intolerable Laird McNamara.
Of course Adie minded her own business, it was just that her mind would drift at times of great importance; or little importance, as she would have liked to think.
Her father was adamant that she stay put, no 'horse' playing as he would like to call.
He considered horseplay running around the Highlands. She wasn't that daft to go across the countryside in a place she knew naught about. But every now and again she itched to just run, fast, and far. It didn't matter where, Adie just wanted out.
And she got her chance when her father and cousin James or was it Gaghran were brought out to repair one of the villagers doors.
Swiftly, but surly she slipped out the back; it was more discreet for obvious reasons. Surveying the area around her, Adie took a leap of faith and dashed out…
And hit someone square in the chest.
She gasped, having lost her breath.
"Oh my, do excuse…Ugh! Why can I not do anything without you always being there to get in my way! I detest you!" Once she had gained her breath she poked his chest.
Of course the chest was none other than Coll.
Chuckling to himself Coll grabbed Adie's wrist in attempt to stop her from poking him.
"That's enough. I have not done a thing to be detested. I was walking around my holding when I seen a lass looking rather suspicious. I'm glad I came over when I did. You would have obeyed orders." Smugly he lifted her arm and threw her over his shoulder.
Of course Adie fought with a vengeance. To Adie he was a brute with no heart or kindness.
"Do put me down, or I will scream so loud that your warriors will run like there is war!" She stared hitting him on his shoulder blades, but it was no use, he wasn't letting her go, not a chance.
She dangled there over his shoulder as he made his way up the back steps. Abruptly he swung her down and pinned her to the wall behind her.
Adie wanted to push Coll out of her personal space, maybe even trip him, but her courage was waning when she saw the look in his eyes. His eyes were a blue hue, they were bold, and dared her to try and make a run for it. There was no chance. He had her in his clutches.
He got closer to her face and raised his hand, Adie flinched away immediately, thinking he thought to hit her, but instead he drew a finger across her jaw line.
Adie quivered internally. Already she was giving him a reaction and he had yet to say a word. It was all physical torture on her being.
Coll dared not speak in fear his voice would give way to emotion about how he felt her defying the rules and trying to escape.
His caress came to a stop and he dropped his hand to his side as if it was weighing him down.
To Adie it was pure torture, between the gentleness and roughness of Coll's demeanor in the last five minutes, and his ability to not utter a word yet was driving her mad.
He was still looking at her when she had enough of his assessment on her being, "What already? Spit it out! I know you want to say something to make me feel guilty, do it! Get it over with," she huffed in an unladylike manner and crossed her arms under breasts.
The small movement diverted Coll's attention and he took the chance to admire her subtle 'features'. By the time he was done admiring, he had grown irritated.
Without a word he pushed away from her and stalked down the corridor and out of sight.
She was frazzled and confused by the look in his eyes and his sudden cold manner towards her with his parting.
Adie couldn't put the two together to save her life, she was not dense in the least, but Laird McNamara was a complicated man who couldn't even make up his own mind!
By the time Coll made it to his room he had already had pictured Adie naked, on his bed, and waiting for him.
His anger was unleashed and he hit the wall. He could not have such thoughts for an English woman, Christ, all he wanted was a roll in the sack every now and again with a wench.
Coll had deceived himself and now he was in trouble for harboring such lustful thoughts for his charge.
Charge? Groaning to himself he realized he even considered her half decent, she was a spoiled brat who was too naïve of her own appeal.
By the time he was done thinking on the matter, he was so rattled that he decided it be best to join the warriors in practice right away. It would release all his frustrations and distract him from the gentle and beautiful face of Adie Macrae
It was lust. It had to be.
Blah. I feel like I have been out of the game forever. I'm wobbly, I am not going to lie. I just thought I should freshen up and try to finish this story. It would be a major accomplishment for myself. So yeah, this chapter is short, blah, give me a break. And there probably is errors, but not too bad.
So review and make my day :)
