Swallow A Stone

By Lissa Howe

A single stone last an eternity,

So it seems,

We swallow stones every day,

With every rude comment we make,

With every jester we provide,

We dig ourselves deeper in,

We find ourselves in jail,

We even find ourselves unliked,

We find ourselves with a single slice of bread and nothing to flavor it,

But no matter how far we dig,

We find ourselves loved with a way home.
