Seventh Day

God made the world in six whole days spanning eons never seen,

The wind and trees and galaxies and the ocean depths pristine,

God made the world in six whole days, and he made man last of all,

With his love and skill, gave man free will, and he watched our freedom fall….

------

For God rested on the seventh day, with our fault lines showing clear,

With the world begun, he left us undone, filled with equal hope and fear,

God rested on the seventh day, placing Earth in our poor keep,

Why did you rest on the seventh day when you have no need to sleep?

------

God made the world in six whole days and he left it at our feet,

Knew man would begin his time with sin, since he made us incomplete,

God left the seventh day alone when he could have used it well,

But there had to be a heaven, so there had to be a hell….

------

So God rested on the seventh day, leaving man's contested heart,

If God's final dream is of man redeemed, why not finish what you start?

God rested on the seventh day, left us Eden's wiles to roam,

Why did you rest on the seventh day if you wanted us at home?

-------

God made the world in six whole days and made man with flawed design,

Could've formed our souls without doubts and holes, taken his time to refine,

But if God knows all, and his wish is love, there must be a reason why,

Why we struggle with decisions, why our children have to die….

------

God rested on the seventh day, for he had a choice to make,

Either let us dance in sweet ignorance or know how to make mistakes,

God rested on the seventh day knowing we'd take from the tree,

And decided that this was the way Creation's meant to be,

-------

God rested on the seventh day for we're in his likeness made,

With choice in our hands come the great demands of the sunlight and the shade,

If we had no chance to make ourselves, we'd be none like him at all,

So his greatest gift of love was risk of the garden prison's fall.
