Third story of my Three Piece Challenge! ENJOY!!
I watched the screen intently as I manoeuvred Mario to jump on one of the hardest levels. I focused intently as Mario got to the cannon ball stage.
I lost all concentration when Paul Stevenson, my best friend for ages, pinched my sides.
"Hey!" I cried out as Mario got hit by a cannon bal and jumped off the screen, smiling sheepishly. I turned to Paul who had a wide grin on his face.
"Cheater!" I sulked starting to poke him.
"I know!" he burst out, smiling like a goof as he started to poke me back. Our poking session soon turned out to be a massive tickling one.
"Oh no!" I laughed as Paul tried to pin me, tickling me under the arms. I found a way to push him back with my feet, eventually pinning him down and tickling him anywhere that he was ticklish.
"Okay! Okay! MERCY!!" he finally cried out through fits of laughter. We both tumbled to the floor, trying to catch our breath.
In case I haven't told you already, my name is Sophie Miller. My best friend Paul is actually my next-door neighbour as well.
I'm seventeen. Paul's eighteen.
I have jet black hair and aqua green eyes while he has this cute little mop of Sandy hair and very expressive pale blue eyes.
The whole ordeal started that day, and changed my view of a lot of things. I guess it all ready started when...
"Sweetheart! Mail!" My mum called through the door.
"Cool!" I cried running to my door and throwing it open. My mum handed me a small white envelope and I kissed her on the cheek as a thankyou.
"It could be from Michael" My mum said before she left and I plonked myself down on the floor halfway out of the room.
"I think you should bring it inside your room, in case your brother and sister decide to run you over" Paul said coming over to me.
"But I want to read the le-etter!" I whined.
"Well you can't read it there, you'll get stepped on"
"Move me then" I challenged.
With that, he leaned down, scooped me up and took me over to my bed and dropped me on it.
"Well I told you to move" Paul huffed as I finally pulled the letter out of its envelope and started to read it.
By the end I was shaking so badly I couldn't help it.
"You're heavy" Paul grunted leaning against the bed.
He instantly noticed my change in attitude.
"What is it? What's wrong?"
He gently tore the paper out of my hands and read it.
By the end he was cursing and calling Michael a liar.
It was basically a letter telling me that he couldn't go out with me anymore because of 'personal reasons'. He used the classic line 'It's not you, its me'.
"Sophie?" He replied softly, coming to sit on the floor in front of me.
"I... I think I need some time alone"
"But Soph, I-"
"Please go now" I pleaded with him. He nodded, putting a hand on my shoulder before leaving. Then the tears came.
"What a coward!" Amanda Hamilton blurted after she had heard what had happened. It was Monday and the four of us, me, Paul, Amanda and Lee Joseski, were hanging out before school started.
"You really don't need someone like that" Lee told me, shaking his head and digging his hands deep into his pockets.
They were all being sympathetic but that didn't help much when you've been flat out dumped.
The bell went and we headed to our first class, which was English. Unfortunately for me, Michael was in our class as well.
As I sat down in my seat I felt a little shaky, not knowing if I could get through the day.
"Um, Soph...uh... nevermind" Amanda muttered, which caused me to look up in time to see Michael walk in with a girl in our year named Debbie Walters trailing Sarah Mcarther behind them.
"Oh god" I whispered as Michael wrapped his arms around Debbie, both of them chatting away like nothing was wrong.
Before I realised it I was running out of the classroom, tears blurring my eyes as I brushed past them, knocking Sarah over.
I left the classroom leaving my friends crying out to me and Sarah cursing at my back.
I slammed my back against the brick wall, collapsing against the floor, tears streaming down my cheeks.
I don't know how long I stayed like that, crying my heart out, but it was a while before someone found me.
"Sophie, are you ok?"
"Does it fuckin look like I'm okay?!!" I screamed angrily, looking at them through blurry eyes. They sat down on the floor beside me, saying softly,
"I know you're upset, but you can't let him see that, you've got to be strong. Your friends are right here with you, and we'll be beside you every part of the way"
I finally recognised the voice as Amanda's and still trying to focus on her, cried,
"I know that, but it's hard to see someone I've loved for over five months to be laughing and joking around with someone else not even two days after..." I trailed off, my voice catching in my throat.
"I know. And I'm not going to lie to you, it's going to be bloody hard, but we're here for you, and we'll do anything to help you"
She gave me a tissue and I blew my nose softy, sniffling.
"Thanks Amanda, I really need you right now"
