Beautiful Vengeance
Chapter One
A small bodied young girl sat on the cement floor with her knees up to her chin, with a small bag by her side. The room was cold and damp, with cold breeze sipping through the cracked window. She hugged her knees tighter, as if afraid to lose them like she did with everything she had.
"You are in my midst, and I will not be moved. You are always there to help me speedily. You are with me, Lord. Knowing this, I will be still. I know that you are my God. Thank you for your constant help in my life, Lord. Amen." She whispered faintly into her arms and sighed.
Apart from confusion, sadness swept over her mind like a crow over a lone gravestone. Even though she had the slightest idea of where she was, she was sure that this time, she wouldn't be seeing what she's been seeing and that, for a very long time. She almost jumped when the old worn door slowly opened up to reveal a bright halo of light, silhouetting a figure. The figure slowly walked up to her, almost as if a father would to a daughter. The confused girl shielded her eyes from the light, wondering about this strange old man as he stood in front of her.
"Are you Melise Kruse?" He asked, in a soothing kind of way. Melise nodded, and let her guards down a little bit. Who was this man? How does he know my name? She pondered. The old man had a thick black trench coat on, with neat grey hair and fatherly features. He smiled and took out his hand. Melise hesitated, since she was taught never to intentionally touch a man at her academy back in Germany. She put her hand on the old man's big gloved one, who helped her up.
"Well, I guess this place can't be too bad as for living, but you'll get used to it," said the old man who introduced himself as Father Joseph, lightening the mood a bit. Melise smiled slightly, looking around the gray interior of the hallway the two were walking in. White numbered doors lined neatly along the wall, making her feel obsolete of what she used to see. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions, but save them up for your new guardian, alright?" He asked, stopping in front of a door labeled "Suite 674".
"Yes, thank you," Melise replied and thanked politely as Father Joseph opened the door for her. The room was almost empty and was dimly lit, preferably for Melise, whose eyes hurt from the florescent lights.
A tall figure of a man stood in front of the huge wall made entirely out of glass, facing infinite moving strings of yellow and white lights on what seemed like a street. Sky scrapers loomed over the view, shining in the pitch black darkness of the sky. Melise stood marveling at the overwhelming sight, forgetting all about the ominous man who stood unmoving.
"This is it, Melise. May good luck be with this girl always….Amen." Father Joseph bid her good-bye and brushed past her out the room.
Heavy silence settled in.
