Raining While the Sun Still Shines

Step out into the sunshine
Tracing patterns on the ground
A leaf so softly broken
Watch the cold air pull it down
Shrug on a warm, thick jacket
Someone warned that it'd be cold
Step firmly, watch the puddle
Rippling cooly orange-gold

Gently, slowly walking
As the sun glows overhead
All the roughest paths
No, take the safer one instead
Every step will lead
Up to a new and different view
And always keeping warm and dry
With sunshine beaming through

Look up into the blue
And feel the tears fall as it cries
Both sun and blue-grey clouds
Dissolve as drops fall from their eyes
Sit down on something steady
And just hope it goes away
No going on, no going back
Just sit, just sigh, just stay

Pull up the hood and feel the rain
Fall steady, hard and quick
So sudden come, the trees despair
Their leaves protest, plick, plick
Very swiftly drenched in rain
Like everything around
Sit on the something steady
Wait, don't move, don't make a sound

The sun will lie beneath its screen
Of leaves and wood and rain
The wind will push against the hood
To watch as warmth will drain
So sit alone and helpless
'Neath the tree that moans and whines
On any cold fall morning
Raining while the sun still shines
