i watched the sunset
and thought of her
and how even god's
majestic masterpiece couldn't compare
to her beauty

i watched the sunset
and along with it
hopeful aspirations
sincere machinations
sinful desires
and hopeless desperations

i watched the sunset
and felt the wind no longer sing to me
no longer call my name
and die in my sails

i watched the sun set
on me
leaving me shrouded in darkness
the celestial light of the heavens
my only companion and guide

i watched the sunset
painted with divine strokes
of orange, cerulean, and violet
and longed
for a sight as breathtaking
as the skyline-- as her

i watched the sunset
with dried eyes
and nevermore
wished so earnestly
for the sun to rise
