The Geometry of Us

The angles we created were right.
Your obtuse manner
An acute presence in my life.

Now, the vertex of our affections
Has passed.
A vivid point
Along the linear paths we took.

We might as well be parallel lines-
Fated never to touch,
Yet longing to be side-by-side.

Instead, our fates are perpendicular,
Intersecting once, briefly and sweetly
Before veering off into separate planes.
