Now this poem has a bit of history to it. I Roleplay on GCN in the Gor Channels. I am a singer/Poet there. I visited one channel ran by a very funny lady who goes by Leaf. Her character is totally crazy and decided mine was a spy. So she captured my character and was going to kill her (or enslave her) but got talked into sparing me. She took my Czehar (the gorean equavalent of a Guitar) and to get it back I had to write a poem about her invisible (to us) companion, the Warrior Vulo (read bantam rooster) Darn.
In Honor of the Warrior Vulo Darn

(AKA: OK Leaf I want my Czehar back)

I don't know how you do it

How you brighten up my day

a single gentle touch

but it shows me the way

how to keep dispair from crushing

how to defy it's evil wraith

how to keep my spirit from breaking

how to keep my faith.

Long ago when I was young

I didn't know my way

So I did the best I could

Living day to day

Companion, slaves, a worthwhile caste

It made up my days and nights

My duty to my village done

I ignored the many fights

Until my narrow world came down

Crashing about my ears

Companion gone, and all alone

Yet I didn't weep bitter tears

I thought a friend I had

I thought that she was true

but in the end she betrayed me

as many often do.

So then I wore the collar

so then I wore the chain

my life felt dead and empty

and all I knew was pain

Then you came to me

You seemed so very mean

You may have been a vulo

but I think you'ld fight a sleen

You didn't tolerate weakness

Not in any of your band

You reminded me of my masters

I fear I didn't stay my hand

I took you from your home

and bound you to my side

I taught you about kindess

you taught me not to hide

Not to hide my feelings

Not to hide my tears

You helped me regain my soul

from underneath my fears

You followed me where I went

Your touch it eased my heart

when I finally won my freedom

I feared that we must part

Yet they let you go with me

let you leave your home

so now we go together

neither one alone.

Now I stand tall and proud

and it is thanks to you

You have been my very best friend

Honest faithful and true

My dear Warrior Vulo

I wonder how it can be

that someone who started so humble

can help me be so Free

you are the wonder of my world

maybe even the wonder of an age

You teach so well by example

how to excape the cage.

My heart I owe to you

You finally set me free

I am what I am because

of all you've done for me.

I don't know how you do it

How you brighten up my day

a single gentle touch

but it shows me the way

how to keep dispair from crushing

how to defy it's evil wraith

how to keep my spirit from breaking

how to keep my faith.

Darn you are my very best friend

a warrior brave and strong

and as long as we are together

the world will never do us harm
