Car broke down, weather's chill

Open mailbox, four more bills

Step inside, shake off boots

See in mirror greying roots

Groan a bit, pick up toy

Stubbing toe, call to boy

Rushing out, hair afly

Eyes bright blueness

Coaxing try

"Wasn't mine, it was… um"

Other siblings to blame… none

Looks up sweetly, face shines true

"Okay, mine– but I made this for you!"

Holds up painting, crayoned with green

Red, and blue – depicting scene

Mom and child, amid a field

Of giant flowers – look down, yield

Adoring face stares into yours

Returning smile, you shut the door

And hug him back, with playful shove

He grins, you laugh –

Life's healed by love.
