Ch.11-Persistent Pete

Time passed and the lunch bell rang again. I stood up slowly and wiped away the remains of my tears. I hadn't found my friends after all, I had stayed in the bathroom crying like a baby. I slammed my fist on the counter. I wanted to insult myself time and time again, but it never got me anywhere. Who does Pete think he is?!? I mean, really…it's not like we talk or anything! Why does he care if I go to see Dan in the hospital, but not really…I sighed. I'd better get to class.

But as soon as I got out of the bathroom, a surprise awaited for me.

"Well, finally you came out! I was about to think you died in there or something," an all too familiar voice said.

I stopped in mid tracks and turned slowly around. You have got to be kidding me. "Pete?" I asked, in agony.

"That's my name, don't wear it out," he said, dusting off the top of his shirt.

I rolled my eyes, and began walking away.

"Hey! You can't just walk away from me like that! I'm a football player!" he shouted, but I just walked all the faster, and eventually made it into Band class.

The bell rung just in time as I took my seat.

Miss Carlsy looked at me strangely, and I returned the look somehow wondering if it was some new sort of trend because as I looked around everyone else was doing it to me too. Then, I looked down at my lap and sighed.

"Lauren, where is your instrument?" Miss Carlsy asked.

"In my locker," I said, groaning.

"Go get it, please," she said, gesturing me out of the room.

And painfully I glided out of the room, muttering miserably along the way. Why do I have to like the flute? It's just a flute. I just have to play a freakin' flute, don't I? I'm a flute…freakin' flute of nature, I am…gah…

"So, you realized it," famous Pete Parning began again.

I glared at him in fury. "Don't you have a class to be in?" I asked, storming off to my locker. Unfortunately, he stormed right on after me. I shook my head. "Well, don't you?" I asked.

He adjusted the flow of his bangs. "Yeah…probably."

I rolled my eyes. "And to think I liked you once…" I muttered.

"Well, I don't blame you," he said. "I look good."

I rolled my eyes and walked faster. If I was in a better mood, I'd probably agree with you…I thought, but in an instant I forgot those thoughts. I was trying to forget about him, right? Cause he was stupid and self-centered and could care less about me. He just wanted answer for some reason….GAH! He's a football player for crying out loud!

I finally got to my locker. Pete had been talking non-stop the whole way, and just because I had reached my destination did not make his mouth quiver at all.

"So, this is where your locker is…" he would say.

And I would shake my head sarcastically and say, "Nooooo, I'm just stealing from the geek's locker."

"Oh, you should've told me," he said, smiling smugly.

I rolled my eyes again. "You're such a dork," I said. Then, I quickly grabbed my flute, slammed my locker and ran back to class.

"Oh, you're just jealous…" I heard him mutter. He didn't follow me this time, but I could feel him stare…and I didn't like it.

"Oh, can you believe him?!? I can't believe him!!! This is ridiculous! Why would he do this to me? I just can't believe this!!!!!!!" I went on and on to Kristen that day after school.

"Oh, I think you like it," she smirked.

I gasped in horror. "You can't be serious!" I shouted.

Everyone looked at me, but that was nothing new.

"Old crushes die hard…" she said.

"That's not it! I swear, I don't like him! I swear! I mean, okay…I'll admit I was a little confused about how I felt this year, but I don't like him. Who could like him? I mean, seriously," I grumbled.

"Uh…you could?" she asked, smirking.

I hit her lightly. "Oh, you're no help!" I went off.

She shook her head. "Bye…"

I bumped into Kalista. "Kalista, you will NOT believe what happened to me today…"

"Did you e-mail me?" she cut me off.

I sighed deeply. "Yeah…this morning, but I have more important things to talk about."

She sighed. "Okay, well?"

"Oh man, Pete is just—"

"Charming? Sweet?" Pete walked up, and whispered in my ear. "I know I am. You don't have to go bragging about me though," he smirked.

"Ugh! I can't believe you! Leave me alone!" I stormed off. "I'm walking home today…" I muttered.

"Bye!" Kalista shouted out to me. "E-mail me!"

I waved her off and just kept walking. "Oh man…"
