One Wish…
Prologue
"All my life I have been waiting for one chance… the chance to prove that everyone was wrong about me. Those who ignored me from kindergarten up and now that I hit the big time I did just that. So kiss this!" I read the article over and over not believing that a person would say that during an interview. The face looked familiar but then again I didn't know anyone outside of this town.
I looked up at the clock a small smile appearing on my face when I noticed that it was 11:30 P.M. on December 31st. In thirty minutes a whole new year would begin and hopefully with it something new and exciting as well. I heard a voice tell me to come downstairs and I obediently obey putting on my flip-flops and placing my hands into the pocket on my hoody. I jumped off the last few steps and almost landed on our cat.
I stepped into the living room immediately noticing that my little sister was asleep on the couch. I walked over and sat down on the floor watching a program with my parents. My mom and dad had one rule on New Years Eve and that was if you had something to do next day then don't do anything stupid. Well for me school started two days after New Years so I wasn't about to go party myself stupid and then be feeling pain and embarrassment when I return to school.
When it hit ten minutes until Midnight I heard a voice come on and a guy with dark brown hair and deep blue eyes stepped in front of the camera. I stood transfixed at his face and I felt like his eyes could see into my soul even though he was millions of miles away. The voice said that he was part of a band called "Sole Survivors" and he was the lead singer. He smiled at the audience and brought the microphone up to his face to say something before singing.
"Ladies and Gents! How about a round of applause before we bring in the New Year? I think you will enjoy this new song since this is our last performance before we go off of tour for a while. So we bring to you as the special New Years Eve present the song 'One Wish'," he said before three clicks from a drum and a rock song began to play.
I was so caught up that I didn't even notice that my parents had left the room to put my sister to bed. I watched as all the band members began to sing and then I watched the lead singer step forth and heard his voice seep out through the airwaves towards me. I couldn't believe that I had never heard of this band before. I knew then and there that they would become one of my favorite groups. Their voices together and separately were all perfect. They finished and I could tell he was sweating from the emotion he put into the song and I saw his eyes gaze up at the TV before he let out a smile.
I felt my body shake a little when I saw his smile. I knew I would never be near him in real life but I knew he was amazing. I looked at the clock and then back at the television. The boy was talking again and I could hear him introducing the band and himself. I turned the volume up a bit and listened trying to catch what his name was.
"On Bass we have Alexander Jameson, Drums is Robert Firth, Lead Guitar Andrew Steign, and I'm Rowan Shane. Keep a look out in the New Year because "Sole Survivors" are here to stay! Now let's bring this New Years in the right way. 20… 19… 18…" he started and I felt my voice shake a little because to me it felt like something big was going to happen.
The boy, Rowan continued to count down and I felt myself look out the window up into the starry sky. I felt my mind focus on a star and I felt the words come out of my mouth before I could stop them, "If I could have one wish for this year… it would be that everything would be different, but in a good way. My one wish is for something exciting to happen this next year." I closed my eyes and then heard the words the words 'Happy New Year' shouted out on the screen.
I sunk down onto the bed that night with a feeling that this year was going to be big. Not only was it the last semester of my senior year in high school it felt like something was going to happen to change my life for the better. I closed my eyes hearing the song from "Sole Survivors" still replaying in my head. Right before I feel into unconsciousness the lyrics, "One Wish and destiny cries over and over again." I realized that it was odd that my name was Destiny Rivers and that the boy looked oddly familiar but I didn't focus on it. Instead I slipped into sleep and forgot about everything until the first day of the new semester of school. Then everything changed.
