I used to be afraid

she sighs, the words tumbling out

of numbed blue lips,

while his fingers brush her shoulder blade

where it makes shadows of her skin.

and then you came along

her mouth forming elongated shapes of

memory, while his leg

touches hers beneath the

heavy air of her frozen breath.

and something in me snapped

the pitch of her voice wavers

and her curls fall over her eyes in

relaxed beauty while his mouth

rests away from her

taunting desire.

you should be more frightening

and her eyelids fall shut

as the knife he grasps sinks underneath

the shadows of her shoulder blade.

her numbed lips stay

wide

open.
