Chapter 1

I remember the day I met the one that was destined for me. We were destined for each other. But our love wasn't your conventional type of love; it was far from the norm. It was a love from my present, and his present, even if it was my past.

The night before I met him, the sky was dark and it roared with rage. I sat at the window seat in my room, watching the lighting. My window faced the forest that set across the road from my house.

My home town was slowly growing, but my family had settled down at a part of town that wasn't going to be touched and the houses were set a bit apart. The street we were on had no traffic besides the vehicles of the neighbors. I had watched a couple of the younger boys practicing for the next hockey season in the middle of the road with their hockey nets, hockey sticks and tennis balls. School had been out for about a week now and my friends were already out of the country on some kind of family destination. My parents worked most of the summer vacation, which meant I was home alone most of the time.

I had watched the lighting, and listened to the thunder most of the night. This night was also my parents wedding anniversary. So they probably wouldn't be home until pretty late. I was – and still am – fascinated with dragons. My dad had bought me two dragonolgy books for Christmas this year. As the lighting flashed once again, I looked around my room, and one of the books was illuminated on my bookshelf. I turned on the small light above my head and got up to get the book. The cover was a hard cover and it was smooth. I sat back down on my window seat, opened my book and started to go through the pictures.

The lightning flashed so brightly, that all I could see was the white from it. Then the lights went out. I looked out side and the street lamps were out. Then a thunder clap sounded so loud that it shook the house. My heart stopped for a second. That was how strong the thunder was. As I looked outside, I closed my book. The second I closed it, fork lighting struck outside in the forest. I was transfixed on the horizon, staring at the tree line where the sky and forest met. The thunder came almost right away, it sounded like a bomb going off, the rain that had been coming doing constantly, was now coming down on streets.

"I'm going there tomorrow… I need to see what happened."

I left the book there on my window seat, stood and walked over to my bed. I moved the blankets and sheets out of the way and crawled in. Covered myself and cuddled into the blankets and slept listening to the rain, and the thunder.

In the morning, I woke a couple minutes before 11. I grabbed a pair of shorts and a Tee, raced into the bathroom to take a quick shower. Once dressed, I went downstairs made a breakfast of an egg sandwich. By the time I was ready to head out, it was about 11:30. Before heading out, I grabbed an old empty Gatorade bottle and filled it with water and ice. I then borrowed a beer cooler holder thing that my dad had used at my aunt's cottage last summer. It had a strap so I was able to place it over my shoulder to carry with me.

I'd be the first to admit that I wasn't the most fit person in the world, and I'd need to carry a cold water bottle around with me, so I wouldn't get a headache and get dehydrated. Next I grabbed my key from the cork board, and ran for the front door. Once out, I got a couple waves and hellos from close set neighbors. I waved back, and then locked the door. The town was safe and there was like no crime in the area, but it was just a habit of mine. I did the same with the car door; I locked when I was in the car and when I wasn't.

I dashed down the front steps of the porch, down the driveway and onto the street. The house that I lived in since I was 11-12 maybe even 13 was two stories high, and had grey brick with light powder blue garage and front doors.

I moved quickly to the forest; the entrance was up the street a little. There was a long wooden board walk that went over this swampy area. I ran all the way down the board walk and into the forest. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but of course the lighting last night had hit farther in.

Here I slowed my pace. I knew that I shouldn't have started out on a run. I took out the water battle and took a mouthful and kept going.

I knew my forest well. In warmer weather like this, I would be back here all the time with my friends. I walked down a foot path that had a lot of twists and turns in it. I reached a semi clearing and looked around. The trees above covered the sky, but on the ground were a couple fallen trees. The ground couldn't be seen from the fallen leaves and pin needles. I looked to my right, and nothing seemed a miss, in that direction. I then looked left and I thought I seen something just escape my view.

I went that way. If it was an animal, it would be long gone by now. I wound my way through the trees, gripping the trees when the ground would drop suddenly. I was walking by the side of a small hill. I knew that the hill led into the field where they were trying to re-grow some of the forest. I stood in place looking around; I couldn't see what I thought I saw anywhere. Maybe it was an animal of some kind. But what I thought I saw looked like some kind of tail. I looked back behind me – nothing. All what I had seen as I walked over. I turned around to look at the hill, and for some reason, I hadn't seen it before, but there was a hole in the side of the hill. I took a couple steps back and my heel managed to find the flat of a rock and I fell backward and landed against a tree…

"Wait… there wasn't a tree behind…" I looked up and what I saw changed the rest of not only my summer, but also the rest of my life.

A couple peoplemenctioned that there was a couple spelling mistakes, so i fixed them - on the story at least. I care not about the little comment stuff at the bottom. What matters IS the story. Not the commentary...
