A Reader

Wide eyes peeking

From behind the yellow

Shelves of the library bookcase

She sees the title and

Grabs the books, still scanning

For something more to read.

Brings a pile of books

Almost too heavy to hold

To the checkout desk,

Because at the library

You don't have to pay.

At home, throws herself

On the bed. Picks up the book,

Reads two poems in two minutes,

Nothing more.

Gets up, turns on radio.

Alternates between

Music and book.

Gets into bed,

Fall asleep an hour later.
